Production, Sampling & Songwriting: DAMITA JO I wanted to talk more specifically about the craft behind the album.
So don't read this if you haven't heard the album yet or aren't ready to pick it apart because this thread might contain a few "spoilers" (if it matters to you). (Janet Jackson/Dallas Austin/Gregory "Ruckus" Andrews) Produced by Dallas Austin I swear the Tablas on this song sound like the same ones on 2001's "China Love", but how could it be the same percussion sound if it is Dallas Austin producing it? Am I hearing things? 4. Strawberry Bounce (3:10)

Avilla) Produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Janet Jackson song starts with the drums from "make the music with your mouth biz" by biz markie. used in the same way a tribe called quest made a rest-stop in "check the rhime". it doesn't sound like it came from the original break by lafayette afro rock band. the guitar has a "redux" effect that makes it sound like 12-bit sampling (like pete rock uses sometimes). and whoever made the beat used the roxanne shante vocal sample i used on my current beat.  (this isn't as bad as the time i made a track based on "the glow of love" a month before "all for you" came out - of course, there was no actual comparison in sound quality haha).
14. Thinkin' 'Bout My Ex (4:33)
(Tanya White, "Freckles"/Babyface/A. Cramer) Produced by Babyface i just wanted to say that this is the best composed song on the album!  the b-section is great. lyrics too. and i only just realized that this was babyface's contribution! | |

Janet Rainstorm! Janet Rainstorm! I wish I could add something to the production, etc conversation. I think if I made any comments, it would sound more like a review but let me add a few things. I'm not in love with "R&B Junkie" even though it sounds almost genuinely like a track from back in the day (I don't recognize the sample). It almost sounds like a spoof of that kind of "back in the day sound" that was possibly a craze started by Missy and "Old School Joint". The fact that "Warmth" sounds like one of the four sexy, slow and dirty songs on "All For You" and is co-producded by Rockwilder...dare I say the Kayne West of "All For You"...suggests that it is an outake from "All For You" which is damn shame. It's not that bad of a track but the fact that they dug it up is bothersome. The biggest problem with production in many cases is that the music almost overpowers Janet's vocals. "Strawberry Bounce" and "Sexhibtion" are the worst offenders. | |

I think Jimmy & Terry shouldve carefully constructed this, not that its not nice 2 hear other producers on the track, but i dont know, something 2 commercial, or overdone 2 be a hit. What is that beat that ends off on "R&B Junkie"? Is that the same song cuz it sounds different while she is talking b4 it goes in2 "I Want U" Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Warmth is aiight, it dont have no hook line that is catchy and it was 2 dark 4 me. The lyrics were very nice though if ya get a brutha. Would U Mind is a classic Janeyt bein nasty jam, right along with Someday Is Tonight and Funny How Time Flies. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Last time I heard these drums was on The Prodigy presents Dirt Chamber Sessions, and he mixed the drums over the end of "Been Caught Stealing" (Jane's Addiction) before segueing into "I Get Wrecked" (Tim Dog & KRS One). goin' bonkers trying to recall the name of those drums... | |

I'd hate to say it's an outake but there is something werid going on. Maybe very early they tried to work with him again and just said "This ain't going no where" (which I think is a good thing). I wonder why he would be back with a song very much in that style. | |
