POOP NOW! - Sunday Times Gives Janet NO STARS

http://www.timesonline.co...80,00.html

From The Sunday Times. UK

March 28, 2004

Pop: New Releases: Janet: Damita Jo
DAN CAIRNS

JANET
Damita Jo
Virgin 84404 2

YOU’VE seen the breast-flashing television trailer; now for the main event. At 65 minutes, with 22 tracks, Janet’s new album can’t be accused of stinting fans. But from the woman who recorded an album as enduringly great as 1986’s Control, Damita Jo is a letdown, without even one half-decent song to enliven it. Unintentionally hilarious spoken-word interludes link tracks, none more pointless than that which precedes The Islands. “Anguilla,” Janet gushes, “that’s my favourite. I love the islands. Um ... the ocean. The weather. I love humidity.” Well, that’s okay, then. Except it isn’t. In an era of innovation in female R&B, Jackson opts for safety and serves up a stinker. Timberlake afforded us a glimpse; Damita Jo gives us a chance to see Janet make a complete tit of herself. No star

Uh..."I Want You" and JALW are half-decent songs so their claims aren't valid to me. And no stars? Let's reserve that for Limp Bizkit records, hmmm?

I pay no attention to reviews. I didn't really think All For You was up to Janet's standards, but it got some great reviews. From what I've heard from other Janet fans, this album is far better than AFY, and from the samples I've heard and judging from the two Japanese bonus tracks and "All Nite", it sounds great so far. "Put Your Hands On" has quickly become one of my favorite Janet songs, and I rarely say that about something new.

This review will not stop me from buying Damita Jo. Damita Jo sounds better than All for you from the samples I have heard.

Ooooh! I know, at the Tower Records on South Street, they're having a "Janet Weekend". I'm going to go and check it out on my lunchbreak!

A new Janet era is finally here! biggrin

I know, I can't wait! All I've heard is "All Night", and it's amazing! Have you heard "Put Your Hands On"? Oh my God, I can't get enough of it! dancing jig

That's so sad. I mean, the album is not great, but it's not as bad as All 4 U either. Janet is unfortunately in the wrong corner this time around and the media knows it will sell when they kick someone who is down.
"It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

I'm still buying this CD. I just want this album to be better than All For You. That disappointed me big time.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This quote made me laugh out loud. I'm no JJ fan particularly but it does seem that she may have misjudged (if not created) the swing to political correctness that now puts Damita Jo against the flow of the mainstream.

I couldn't control myself. Both Windows and MSN are allowing people to download the album for free so I had to at least sneak a listen to "All Night (Don't Stop)"...why this wasn't the first single I have no idea. It has to be the next (not sure if I should say 2nd or 3rd). They would have to put out a maxi single with remixes. Just a little while more...I think I might get it early in the morning at Kmart or something. I don't want to wait!

I've never liked critics nor listened to them anyway and I'm sure most of Janet's fans really give a rat's ass about what this loser has to say. This bloke obvious had made up his mind before he even heard the album preferring to jump on the "let's burn Janet" bandwagon. I haven't heard the album yet and my gut feeling is it ain't that great either, however, it couldn't be that bad.
