Chukki Booker "turned away" Chukki Booker "Turned away" (1989)
Anyone remember this newjack soulful cut, it sounds alot like Troops "Spread my wings", which was also written and produced by Chukki! This is a truly beutifull sounding song and I prefer it to "Spread my wings", but both tracks are excellent! Chukki's whole album was cool, if very harsh on the ears if drum synths were not your thing, his 1992 effort "Niice 'n wild" is also cool, with the wicked cool title track and the suprisenly rude (for him) "Deep c diver". "With all my heart" is also cool! Anyone remember this guy? | |

I read last year that he was playing in Lionel Richie's band. Saw a picture of them together. He's a little heavier, but looks basically the same.
The bass playing on "Touch" was FUNKY! "My Heart" by Troop (which he also produced) is slammin', too. So is the guitar solo on "Turned Away". Chucky was bad... He's another one of those guys that's so freakin' talented, but seemingly disappears off the face of the world, like our boy Jesse Johnson and Vito Bratta, who was the kick-ass guitar player in White Lion. I loved Turned Away and Troop's Spread My Wings!!!! That was definitely the ultra loud funk bass bottom sounds of the 80's which I still love!!! It's better than the fake ripoff toy box music of today (which much of it I despise!!!). No real instruments!! What a shame!!! Chukki Booker was also the great Barry White's godson and produced and wrote a few tracks on Barry White's last album. Lennytunia | |
