Wilco - A Ghost Is Born (2004) I actually got an advanced copy of this cd, and I am in love with it.. its simular to YHF, in the same aspect that Its a lot of growing to complelty appreciate each song.. but its another amazing record, which is produced by Jim O Rourke.. its very obvious on this record. Once again, Wilco is pushing forward on this album, covering new territory with inventive lyrics and instrumentation. I have heard every song but Late Greats, and it this album will have to digest, so Im gonna present a more detailed review when the album gets closer to its due date.

i love wilco, and have all their cds... and i love them all... but my favorite is still "being there"... maybe it's because it's the first wilco cd i ever bought (and i still have that baby on cassette, too  ... )....
as much as i dig the new musical territory that they've been carving out with the last few albums, i would love to see them strip it back down and get more rootsy like they were on "am", "being there" and the "mermaid avenue" cds...  Mr. Ellis Dee-licious, the Official NPGigolo

Been a Tweedy fan for a long time. Loved Uncle Tupelo, didn't like Jay F. So Wilco was a great thing for me. I am quite jealous of you! Yet, I am happy for you too. I love the track listing! I cannot wait until this one is officially released! I will be at Best Buy's doors first thing that Tuesday morning! Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the top 10 albums ever made in my opinion. I just love it so much and after listening to it for awhile, you realize that each song is it's own little masterpiece yet the album works as a whole too. I freakin' love Wilco!!!!! I freakin' love Wilco!!!!! not a fan of jay...?  ...granted, wilco has put out much more consistent music than son volt has (although "trace" is one bad-ass fuckin' album), you gotta admit that at least in uncle tupelo, jay had more than his fair share of kick ass moments... I actually like Summerteeth better than YHF, but I like that one too.

The first track on the cd sounds amazing. Very slow starting, but when it hits that two minute mark it turns into a rock song, loud guitars ect. Kindof reminds me of the song Misunderstood on Being There.

Im lovin the cd so far, Do you know the official release for this album? I think I am more excited to listen to this album than I am to hear Musicology. (Please don't stone me orgers!) I love the DVD of IATTBYH. It shows that these are guys who still drive rusty cars and eat at fast food places, yet they make much better music than some singers who are driven around town in chauffered cars while eating caviar off of platinum plated spoons. I heard such good things about "Yankee Hotel" that I was sorely disappointed when I bought it. The songs seem so aimless and the singer's voice so monotonous that it was hard getting through my self-imposed 3-play minimum before rendering a decision. I also found the lyrics to ramble without ever arriving (like reading one of those boring novels that one either loves or hates; "Zen and the Art.....", anyone?). I tried to unload it at the used CD store, but I scratched it up a bit in my car, so they passed. Anyway, out of respect for Rev. Dee, I may give it another shot. What should I look for? Oh yeah, who/what is SonVolt? That's another unplayed CD in my collection (seems that after the first song, that CD has shot it's load). *****************************************

That's another unplayed CD in my collection (seems that after the first song, that CD has shot it's load). ok... my suggestion would be to forget "yankee hotel" and go back to "being there"... you are guaranteed to like "being there"... trust me on this one... very much in the vien of roots rock... "yankee hotel" is a bit uppity, and i must admit, that if i weren't already such a huge wilco fan, i probably wouldn't like it all that much... i don't think it's the one you should start with... but when you do go back to "yankee hotel" you should start with track 5 "jesus, etc"... that one is classic... good vocal performance from tweedy, and the string section kicks it up... "reservations" is another good song... then, try getting through it again... ok... son volt... this is the history... there once was a band called Uncle Tupelo... they were pioneers in this movement that mixed punk and country, and came out with what is essentially roots rock... music that can be traced back to the "beggars" - "exile" era of the stones... they were wonderful, and contained 2 main singer/songwriters... jay farrar and jeff tweedy... they broke up after 4 classic albums... jay went on to form son volt, and tweedy formed "being there"... son volt started off with the better album... "trace" is a great fuckin' album... you should really listen to the whole thing... it alternates between old school country and driving alternative rock... but it's great... all in all, i think son volt stayed closer to the sound of uncle tupelo, while wilco was the more adventurous band... personally, i think they could really stand to real themselves back in and do something more like "being there"... they're becoming a bit pretentious, i think... It took me like 6 months to fully let YHF sink in.. now Im convinced its one of the best albums I own. Period. Give it a few shots, those songs are so deeply layered that it takes a lot to sink in.
