Why Madonna's concert tickets are so high (NY Daily News Article)

New York Daily News---

At $300,Madonna is no cheap date

Is Madonna pushing her fans over the budget line?

The Material Girl's summer "re-Invention" tour will be her most expensive show ever, with tickets costing up to $300 each.

"Madonna is charging $300 for the top seats and $175 for so-so seats",says our snitch."There are a couple of hundred that are cheaper, but more than 60% of the arena is at insanely expensive prices".

And the payoff?

"Madonna is netting a cool $100 million for three months of concert dates,"says the source, adding the total will come from tickets, merchandise and a TV special of the tour.

However, word is that Mrs.Ritchie will be giving fans their money's worth.

Says our spy: "Madonna is working like she never has before. She is doing several greatest hits, and she has been rehearsing with dancers for up to 18 hours a day to make this her best show yet".

The tour comes to Madison Square Garden on June 16-17.

Madonna's rep,Liz Rosenberg, told us: "The tickets are scaled from $300 to $90.This is pretty much in line with other superstar shows".

Actually,Maddy may NEED alot of money for her legal bills.Read on....

NEW YORK POST---
EDGAR FACING SHOWDOWN WITH MAVERICK,MADONNA

March 25,2004---The bitter dispute between Madonna and Warner Music will be fought in the courts.Warner Music yesterday filed an action in a Delaware court asking a judge to declare that claims made by Madonna's Maverick Records---that Warner has violated the terms of a joint venture agreement---are baseless, the Post has learned.

Meanwhile,Maverick, which is represented by famed Hollywood attorney Bert Fields,is expected to file a lawsuit today in Los Angeles Superior court seeking more than $200 Million in damages, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The lawsuit will also ask the court to terminate the joint venture deal and allow Madonna and her business partner,Hollywood power broker Guy Oseary,to walk away from Warner.

Warner's filing in Delaware is under seal, but Maverick's lawsuit will become part of the public record today.

The dispute between Maverick and Warner has been ongoing for more than a year, and represents a significant headache for the new ownership group headed by Edgar Bronfman Jr.,which resently acquired Warner Music for about $2.6 billion.

Madonna and Warner formed Maverick 11 years ago,and according to terms of the deal Warner has the option to buy out the 60 percent of the label it doesn't own at the end of 2004.

The two sides are now bickering over what Maverick is worth.According to one published report,Madonna and her associates believe their stake is worth about $60 million.

But sources say Warner claims it is worth much less, and that Maverick has not made money since 1998.

In addition to Madonna herself,Maverick boasts such succesful artists as Alanis Morrisette and Michelle Branch.

The legal battle comes amid a wide-ranging restructuring at Warner Music, which is merging it's two East Coast labels,Atlantic and Elektra, and laying off about 1,000 employees.

I'll wait for the video. I don't go not money and as much as I'd vote to see her live, history tells us that they will release the full concert on video...probably a few months after the tour wraps.

This article might explain why we STILL keep getting all these maxi-singles and remix albums from the 'American Life' project.A few months ago,we got the "Remixed And Revisted" EP and now there's talk of yet another remix album,to be released this summer. There's also rumors about a Live album to come after the tour.Perhaps Madonna is trying to quickly get out of her contract, and these projects are a way of fulfilling her contract? I think she owes Warners two more studio albums but I don't know if these projects count towards that?

In any case, she's smart to tour this summer and let her lawyers duke this out with Warners.

Man oh man, I've always wanted to see her live, but I've never been able to. With the tickets this high, even if she does come to my neck of the woods it just won't be possible. sad Guess I gotta wait for HBO!

I would of paid that money back when the blonde amibition tour was out.. or when she was a the height of her career.. She has dimmed somewhat and i dont think ticket prices are worth that.

THat works for me then. Not only are the prices too damn high, I've already seen her live (and it was damn good) and I think I would enjoy the video more. Now hopefully Prince will also release a video of his tour but considering the Vegas DVD, I'm doubting it.

which is exactly my point when i say that the spiritual thing is just a gimmick with her. either that or she truly has no concept whatsoever about spirituality. sorry. she can't have it both ways. either material things are irrelevant or they are not.

Oh the Kaballah is complete BS. It was a nice trend for her to ride. She was also able to plagiarize (oh, sorry, "interpolate") stories from Kaballah teachings for her children's books.
