Press release from Clear Channel Communications---

CHICAGO AND EARTH WIND AND FIRE
3 Hour Extravanganza Brings Together Two Of Popular Music's Greatest Hit Makers clapping

March 24,2004---Chicago,the legendary rock n' roll band with horns, and Earth Wind and Fire, one of the greatest R&B bands of all time, will tour the U.S. this summer,it was announced today by Clear Channel Entertainment. The two artists, both of whom started in the city of Chicago and have achieved massive worldwide fame and record sales, will co-headline this historic tour.Fans can expect to hear more than 3 hours of hits during the tour de force concert, which will begin and end with both bands playing onstage together. The middle sections will feature full sets from each band.

According to Bruce Kapp,Sr. Vice President,Clear Channel Entertainment Touring, "This is an incredible show on so many levels. We think this could be the start of an American tradition.Fans will be overwhelmed by the amazing number of hits".The tour starts June 11 in Dallas and will continue throughout the entire summer.

Chicago has written, recorded and performed some of the most popular and best loved songs in rock history.Through it all, they have remained a working band, releasing 28 albums and touring continually since forming in 1967.Once the Grammy-Award winning group began making records, fans rewarded the group with record sales of 122,000,000,20 Top 10 hits,5 Number One albums,5 Number One singles, and 5 Gold singles. When Rhino Entertainment released "The Very Best Of Chicago:Only The Beginning" in 2002,the 2-CD collection entered the charts at #38,making Chicago the first American rock band to chart a Top 40 album in 5 consecutive decades. In addition to Grammys,Chicago has won American Music Awards, received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and had a downtown Chicago street renamed in their honor.

Earth Wind and Fire is one of the greatest R&B bands of all time.Since forming in 1969,the group has sold more than 30,000,000 million albums in the U.S. alone.Their live shows have always been spectacular, and in fact, they used to hire magician Doug Henning (and his then-unknown assistant David Copperfield) to help design effects. They have won 8 Grammys, numerous American Music Awards, and a BET Lifetime Achievement Award.EWF has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

And here's a new letter from EW&F leader Maurice White, where he talks about upcoming projects...

Date: 03-24-04
To all my fans,

In the few months since I last wrote to you, some incredible things have happened: "Hold Me" was nominated for a Grammy Award,we were fortunate enough to be able to perform at the Grammys,Earth Wind and Fire is back in the studio recording our next album---which I expect to be released later this year---and I'm writing an orchestral performance for Earth,Wind and Fire for later this year.

I spend a part of everyday writing and gathering material for a book about my life's story.Hopefully, that'll be available sometime next year.

I'm also working with Freddie Ravel and Preston Glass, writing new material for my next solo album. It'll include some commercial tunes as well as some experimental stuff.

Earth,Wind and Fire is gearing up to tour with Chicago soon and I'm thinking about joining them on the road for a few dates--I'm really looking forward to it.

Thank you all for the well wishes and the kind words over the last several months. My health is good and I'm staying busy doing what I love: making music.

Peace,
Maurice

a little trivia for ya....

Earth Wind and Fire's 1979 mega-hit "After The Love Has Gone" was co-written by a guy named Bill Champlin ,who is a member of Chicago.I wonder if he'll come out and join EW&F when they do the song that he co-wrote?

So that's why I don't dig that song. Had he been an original member of Chicago it might have turned out better. biggrin

This sounds like a great show.
I played in a band with Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff years ago.
That would be something if during one of the shows Maurice was on, Bill came out on "After The Love Has Gone".
He's got a great voice as well as being a monster B3 player.
If i'm not mistaken, doesn't Lionel Ritchie also have a writing credit on that tune?
