Upcoming Intimate Portrait - Dionne Warwick

INTIMATE PORTRAIT: For 40 years, Dionne Warwick has been dazzling audiences with her soulful voice. With a sound that's smooth as satin and raw as silk, Dionne has bridged the gap between pop music and R&B. Her songs, such as her Grammy Award-winning hits "Do You Know The Way To San Jose," "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" and "That's What Friends Are For," have created memories for several generations and are certain to remain favorites for years to come. But her spectacular voice was often clouded by controversy. Yet through it all and with her faith, Dionne has survived the highs and the lows of the business and challenges in her personal life, while always remaining true to herself and her music. Interviews include: Burt Bacharach, Elton John, Cissy Houston, Gladys Knight, Clive Davis and others.

THIS IS SET TO AIR ON APRIL 10th

I'm gonna check this out. clapping

I'm well overdue to get into Dionne's early work-when her voice was in her prime and she resembled her cousin, Whitney (minus the crack). I've heard a few of her tracks from the 60s and was blown away. I've always liked her voice, but didn't know she had so much of a wide range. It's a shame those damn cancer sticks have deteriorated her pipes.

Shiiiit, cancer sticks do little effect to that.

Sarah Vaughan smoked, partied, drank and got high YET her voice sounded stronger than when she was young(EXACT thing goes with Chaka Khan and for some degree, Aretha).

I think its different from one person to another, I really couldn't explain it.

I love Dionne the musician, I resent Dionne the person!

Exactly. But it is a proven fact that cigarettes do drop the voice. Case-in-point, Tweet said before she started smoking, her range was much higher and a lot of the songs she wrote for Southern Hummingbird had to be re-arranged when it was time for her to record them because her voice had dropped so significantly (or at least to her).

Growing up, my mom used to play the shit out of "Deja Vu". The lady had such pipes, and I remember as I got older that she was one of the few artists my parents listened to that I thought actually had talent (my parents have some awful taste in music). Unfortunately, my opinion of her as a person went straight in the shitter when she started doing those damn psychic hotline commercials!

Sooooo glad Sheila E refused the million they offered her to do the ads! I mean, yeah, that's a whole helluva lotta money, but Sheila didn't believe in it, and she refused to endorse something of that nature. Dionne probably didn't believe in it either, but that's almost worse!!

I didn't resent her becoz of that becoz 4 all I know, she maybe was going through some tuff shit to be needing that money(or NOT) who knows, its her choice and I couldn't judge her.

But she was dissing the rap music(IN GENERAL) and talking shit(when she focused on the drug use thing) not that I had a problem with voicing her opinion cuz I thought hey thats her personal opinion/right but when she got CAUGHT last year with drugs in some airport I resented the hell out of that bitch, so you were RAMBLING 4 the past 10 years about how you hate rap music becoz they courage youngsters to do drugs WHILE YOU were doing it in the low-low? Why preach about poeple's lives and tell them how to clean their houses when you need to worry about cleaning yo OWN damn backyard.

Hypocrisy is a motherfucka!

My favorite Dionne Warwick album is simply titled 'Dionne' and released in 1979.It contains one superb song after another....the hypnotic "Deja Vu",strong adult-contemporary ballads like "I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again" and "After You",some catchy pop tracks like "Who What When Where Why",and even a remarkable disco number "Out Of My Hands".
