What program(s) do you use to rip a Copy Controlled CD? Just broke down and bought the Japanese import of Janet's Damita Jo because the bonus tracks are so great. Has anyone had success with ripping CC'd discs before (without marking them up), and if so, with what program?
Thanks in advance | |

Unlocked. Discuss away, just don't get too greedy or else the RIAA will zap you with their Death Star beam.

Um, I never said I was going to file-share them, lol. Digital Management Rights allow you to make backup copies and my primary listening device is an iPod, hence I wanted mp3s of the tracks. I think you read too much into my original post

We're freed! (thanx Anx)
Well there exists programs (try Google), but what you can always do is to record the CD through an analog input to your hard drive - i.e. connect your CD player with a cord that has 3.5mm stereo jack to your soundcard's input, adjust the sound levels and use a free program like Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net) to capture the music. Then separate the tracks and convert them into mp3 -format (using Audacity or an external coder). However, the D/A - A/D -conversion that takes place in this process might degrade the sound quality considerably if you don't have a decent soundcard (so many of those mainboard integrated soundchips are out of the question if you care about sound quality). But any newer SoundBlaster should do just fine. You shouldn't be noticing any difference. It takes some work, but definitely isn't illegal. In fact, the copy-controlling methods are bordering on just that.

Have you actually tried ripping your CD? Cuz I have some that say on the packaging their copy-protected, but have no problem ripping them from either my CD burner or CD/DVD rom drive. I use CDex.

i have a Harmon Karden dual CD burner for my home stereo unit... no problems w/ that on copy protected CDs (although they won't burn in digital, only analog, and you can't do high speed). I mostly use this for making audio CDs from DVDs, since you can just hook the audio output from the DVD player into the CD recorded and they come out great.
otherwise I used the stereo input jack through my sound card, like novabreaker mentioned.
