& who is on production?
J Dilla!!! YesYes!!! i cant wait for the 3rd installment of AOI. they will be releasing it themselves-but when? it's been 3 years since AOI 2. AOI 3 was originally said to be focused on the DJ/Turntablism. ...is it still? ...will Prince still be on it? ...when the hell is it going to drop (did i already mention that?) -peaceternal

Slum Village's "Fantastic Vol. I" is a near-classic. SV's second LP doesn't come close to the production level of the "debut." The joints Jay Dee did with Madlib on the LP "Jaylib" are pretty sickening too. I have been waiting for AOI Pt. 3 for a while. I dunno any of the info on it. I don't know whether they are cycling out of their Tommy Boy obligations or what. If Prince was gonna be on it, that would be unbelievable (I just wish he'd done collabos with real hip-hop artists in the early 90s and not wasted his time on the TC Eliis/Tony M. slaw). But the 12" single is available (Shoomp/Much More) on AOI Records. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

yeah...i got the 12"
...from what i hear, Tommy Boy dropped them-cut & dry, so they have no ties to the label at all. my guess is that the hold-up is: there is a bit more work going behind releasing yer own album, especially when you are as big as DeLa. i will never understand why they have yet to hit it BIGTIME. album after album of bangin-ass-sick-shit....but most sleep. i will never understand have you heard the 2 instrumental albums Dilla released last year, on Bling 47? that shit is pure raw shit. all unreleased joints-all recorded directly from his MPC3000. Highly Recommended!!! also been bangin' the albums by detroit's own Que-D & Phat Kat. some more Jay beats to get you by. Jay's "Ruff Draft" EP is probably the most insane set he has served us. it will definitly scare all the Diddies in the house. ---peaceternal

But then they ignore the classic material they've released over the next decade and a half. Let us consider it: -- De La Soul Is Dead (feat. "Ring Ring," " . . . Saturdays," "Connections," and several other bangers) -- Buhloone Mindstate (feat. "Ego Trip," "Breakadawn," "Ego Trip (remix)") -- Stakes Is High (to me, their best LP and most consistent production-wise) -- AOI pts. I and II (tons of great tracks, including "Oooh") -- Much More: perhaps their greatest beat EVER. Not to mention guest turns and collabos with Common, Tribe, Camp Lo, Prince Paul, et al. This act is one of hip-hop's absolute finest. have you heard the 2 instrumental albums Dilla released last year, on Bling 47? that shit is pure raw shit.

I will check on that "Ruff Draft" right now. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

KooKoo, Mr. Names:
let me know what you think of Ruff Draft. it is nothing like his other! you could tell he just had an "F-It" attitude when he recorded it. ***also check out the recent remix he did for Four Tet on "As Serious As Your Life" -definitly one of his shining moments. Detroit MC, Guilty Simpson makes an appearance on the vocal version, although i rarely part from the instrumental mix, because it is sick enough without the rhymes*** -peace
