Suggested Selection: Musiq - Who Knows

This is a jewel of a cut. Don't sleep on it. For those who believe "neo-soul" all sounds the same. Check the cut and respect. Its definately a dive into the old way of writing. Good lyrics, a GREAT musical arrangement, and an all around good song.

Who Knows - The Video

LYRICS:

whoknows - audio

Now what we came here to do
It means more to me than just a night
That we share so make sure that you’re prepared
Baby and know that love is not just something to do
It’s the moment that transcends
Our physical into a more spiritual level of understanding
Chorus
And who knows
Somehow this night
Just might lead us into a place
Where our emotions can grow if we let them go
Cause who knows what may happen
If we act on our attractions and loose ourselves
Inside a world made for us and no one else
Hey girl just let me love you
Now ain’t no need to be afraid
Cause I’ll be as gentle as it takes
To provide you with the right amount of
Pleasure and pain and I’ll
Make sure that you feel alright
Even if it takes me all night
Cause the joy is all mine
When I know you’re satisfied
So let’s keep giving all we got
Chorus
Listen, now I can see it in your eyes (yeah)
(I can handle whatever’s on your mind)
That you want to baby just as bad as I do
(And girl I wanna give it to you)
Now if you can just set aside your fears
And just try to deal with what’s going on with us right now
Chorus
Oh baby girl
Come on and just let me love you

it's aaaaaiiiiit. It's too nice, though. I like his grittier stuff. I'ma need a lil' mo headbang from him. He needs to hook up w/ Bilal and learn about the real-

Good material, wack voice. The brotha still couldn't breath a DECENT note and seems that his materials ain't saving him!

Now, Bilal? Thats a whole another story to tell music

I think he did a nice job on the vocals on this song. He's had some shitty moments on the mic, but i think this song isn't one of them.
Now Bilal IS another story. Brotha can SANG! Musiq's lyrics tend to be real as hell, though. You gotta respect him for that. That whole first CD sounded like a conversation or stories. None of that double meaning shit. That went out in the 80s. Nowadays folks want the whole truth straight with no chaser. Lyrically, Musiq brings it. The track on this song is up there with anything Prince has done lately in terms of ballads in my opinion. Its not raw, its subtle. The musical nuiances make this song great. The horn arrangements are primo, too.

I agree with you on the lyrics tip. Did you see the Bilal clip that was posted yesterday? OMG! I really felt his anger when he was singin' Sometimes. He started shakin' the mic when he was talkin about how sometimes he wished he didn't have home-trainin'. lol
I don't agree about Musiq's ballads, though. The comparison that is. Yes, it is subtle. No, it does not compare to the stuff that Prince has done lately. The arrangement was a little too Disney for my taste.

I think its refreshing. Musiq isn't a "raw" artist. He's consistently mellow, yet very real. I disagree, I think this would stand up against any of Prince's recent ballads in terms of musical arrangements and lyrics. It can't touch classics like Adore, though. Still, in the midst of all the hard-edged artists, its kinda nice to see a seemingly genuine "good guy" like Musiq push the message of love over sex. I respect him.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best cut on the album. I really wasn't sure about Musiq from his debut, but each LP seems to get better and better.

Man, I love this song. I'm glad to hear people mention it, and I'm also glad to hear that he chose it for the second single from this album. All of his albums have some great material on it, and also some filler. But Musiq is a talent, and I think he'll be around for awhile. As for "Who Knows" this may be the best thing he has offered yet, and musically it's very well done. I hope he has some success with it...

dude.
I'm not hatin' on Musiq. Sheesh, I'm rooting for him and sticking up for him, most of the time.
All I'm sayin' is that in 5 or 10 years, no one will be singing Who Knows.
One good Prince ballad will stand the test of time.

I heard this last week, caught the video, and was just amazed at how beautiful this song is! So smooth and tender. A great song unlike the sorts of things I usually hear on the radio. Dig it. headbang

It's a nice cut. But to me, his signature cut will always be "time."
