I think Billy Joel would be another one who fits this mold, his early cds were all about his depressions and relations hoever once he found love and Christie Brinkley he was over. Prince wasn't depressed when he made his best albums... Dirty Mind 1999 Around The World In A Day The Black Album (was just a party album for Sheila E.'s birthday) Come Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

And actually, although mad and depressed aren't the same things, I don't think Cookie was Meshell's best album. In general it's not a rule of thumb that recording artists make their best music when depressed, but it's not uncommon for certain things to be going on in their lives when they create it. Inspiration has to come from somewhere. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Also, the allegations didn't surace until 1993, and Dangerous was released in 1991. I think your timeline's a bit off.

Roger Waters was the epitome of depression during his career with Pink Floyd, and you could really sense it in his lyrics for all these albums:
- DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - WISH YOU WERE HERE - ANIMALS - THE WALL - THE FINAL CUT Ecnirp84 "girl, i gotta tell ya. that suit look like a piece of GOOD GOD wrapped up with some HAVE MERCY with a side of MMMMMPHH!!!!' - will smith.

Being creative is VERY therapeutic. Makes a good case for keeping music programs in schools, eh?

Actually. I'd throw in:
Me'Shell NdegeOcello -- Bitter. To me, "Cookie" sounded like a Sesame Street record compared to this LP. Which just happened to be the best album I have heard in ages. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I'm no artist, but here's what I think...
When you aren't depressed, you are busy. You are busy having fun, seeing friends, going places, hanging out, etc. When you are depressed, it's all you can do to shower or get out of bed. Nothing helps sooth boredom and confinement like a pen and paper. "She made me glad to be a man"

When he was making "Keep The Faith" they said he kept on crying and stopping the take over and over. They said he had to do it at least 15 times because of what was going on. he couldnt get it out of his mind Like u said they didnt 'surface' around till 1993. And then.. Keep The Faith is one of the best songs on that album. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

paisleypark4 said: The Beatles .... from Revolver to Let it Be. Nah, not depressed at all. They were changing as people, and their music is a reflection of that. Your also dealing with individuals in a band, and to say the bands depressed would be bias, since they individually wrote most all the work towards the end of the 60's. I LOVE THE BEATLES

But "My Life" is a fantastic album, arguably the best pf the "hip-hop soul" LPs and one of the better R&B/Soul LPs overall. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
