Because Prince also considers Lenny competition. Of course, they are friends so that hardly should have mattered, but when you are a smart musician operating in the maintream music field you don't want to associate yourself with your competition in overt public forums.

Lenny actually looked angry after Prince first performed. I don't think he was even clapping. I think they may not be friends any more.

I knew Alicia Keyes would be a presenter (I called it before it was announced). That was a no-brainer.

btw, I loved the editing of that video sequence at the end of her presentation, with Prince doing those spins.... Now, that's what it was all about, showmanship.

i think it was a pure marketing idea to have outkast present. they are extremely hot right now and have shown lasting ability. if a kid who digs outkast was watching, that may very well give incentive for that kid to pick up a prince record.
