I don't think they got sued or anything because the man was dead and he wasn't that well-known in the states. I don't know about the song you're referring to, but Jaco was very well-known among Jazz fans. Since his death he became more well known among bass players in general too. Jaco is pretty much to electric bass what Hendrix was to electric guitar. Co-sign.

Wow, i couldn`t find one record in all these lists i didn`t really know. And i could live on an island with the records of one of your collections. I am amazed how many people here have such an excellent taste in jazz-music.
So here`s mine. By the way - sorry my stupid orgname - but that`s my mentor and superhero, so please forgive me. I know it`s cheesy. Louis Armstrong meets Oscar Peterson Ahmad Jamal Ahmad`s Blues LesMcCann Gospel Truth Jimmy Smith plays Fats Waller Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Sonny Stitt For musicians only John Coltrane ColtraneĀ“s Sound Duke Ellington Hi-fi Ellington Uptown Charlie Parker at St Nicks Stanley Turrentine and the three Sounds Blue hour Kenny Garrett Triology How could i forget Miles? Shame on me. Okay Kenny has to go, Miles Davis E.S.P. Damn, only one album from the 90`s, and no McCoy albums, no Rollins, no Wes, no Monk. To only choose 10 is impossible. But the one`s i`ve listed are defenitly some of my absolut favourites. [This message was edited Thu Mar 18 16:07:21 2004 by TonyWilliams]

1.Miles Davis-"Kind Of Blue"-needs no explanation
2.Bill Evans-"Since We Met"-Some of the most beautiful and sensitive jazz piano trio music ever recorded 3.Jaco Pastorius-"Word Of Mouth"-this album isnt' so much jazz as it is just "music." Includes original compositions as well as covers of Bach and the Beatles' "Blackbird" 4.Andy SUmmers-"Green Chimneys"-Police guitarist reinterprets Thelonius Monk tunes as only he could 5.Miles Davis-"Bitches Brew"-again, needs no explanation 6.Miles Davis-"Live At The Fillmore East"-live set just before Bitches Brew was released with a sextet. They play SO aggressively it's insane! Great music to drive to! 7.Freddie Hubbard-"Red Clay"-Freddie's last sorta "straight" jazz record before he went fusion. the title track is one of the greatest jazz tunes ever recorded and the reissue includes a tight cover of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey." 8.Paco DeLucia, Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin-"The Guitar Trio"-awesome blend of jazz, classical, flamenco and world music in a woven tapestry of virtuoso guitar that never gets overbearing 9.Joey Calderazzo (self titled)-Current jazz pianist in trio format with Jeff Tain Watts, and John Pattitucci. Joey's an awesome writer and the trio captures the moods of these tunes perfectly. 10.joe Henderson-"So Near, So Far"-a group of Miles Davis alums including John Scofield, Al Lewis, and Dave Holland reinterpret some of Miles' classic but not often recorded tunes.

That is an impossible debate to get into: What is jazz? No one can win that argument, even if people like myself have their own ideas and opinions. Why? Because jazz at it essence is a stream-of-consciousness genre of music which lives on experimentation and breaking boundaries. I don't know whether 8 is jazz in the literal sense, but it is a whole lot more loyal to the genre than other self-proclaimed jazz albums. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
