Whores of Babylon? Interesting title lol

Yawn. No matter how big a Madonna fan you are, you have to admit that this title sounds retarded.

Yeah, but Madonna always chooses crazy titles for her tours ("The Girlie Show"??).I'm sure that there's a hidden meaning behind the "whores of babylon" phrase...some kind of ironic,tongue-in-cheek message she's trying to make. It'll all make sense,I'm sure lol
[This message was edited Tue Mar 16 3:53:03 2004 by DavidEye]

"The Girlie Show" was hardly crazy, considering the album she was promoting at the time - Erotica. It promises sex, teasing, and a fun time.

The Whore Of Babylon conveys nothing.

my thoughts exactly. i feel like she sits up at night trying to think up ways to be stirring, whereas back in the day, it appeared to just come naturally. lol i mean, i'm aware she's always "tried"...but now it seems so transparent.

Okay, let's not get carried away here....

***First,my sources reveal that Madonna hasn't even decided what she's gonna title this tour. You will know all the details by the end of this month. As Vinny pointed out, that so-called "press release" claims that tickets go on-sale March 1st.Obviously,that information has turned out to be false,so there's no reason to believe anything else in that article.Ryan Seacrest, host of the U.S. TV show "On Air" will be making a very important announcement about some pop music event today (March 17).Stay tuned...

***Secondly, why is the name such a big deal anyway? I mean, the only thing that matters to me is that she is going on tour...lol...she could call it "The PsychoBananaRama" tour and I wouldn't care.

***Thirdly,if she DOES decide to call it "The Whores Of Babylon" Tour,I'm sure there will be some kind of hidden,ironic,tongue-in-cheek message behind it all. There's always a point that she's trying to make. It'll all make sense when you see the show.Even though there have been a ton of rumors,we still don't know what this tour is gonna be about (thematically).

***Finally, the assertion that "Madonna stays up at night trying to think up ways to be stirring" is absurd. She's a high-energy,creative and provocative artist. She's never subtle. That's the type of person she's always been. She doesn't do anything half-ass,and that's why we love her so much. You don't really expect her to go out on tour with a simple, boring title like "The Greatest Hits Tour 2004",do you? Understatement has never been her style and you know it.

btw,I miss TRON and Moonbeam.I wonder what they think of all this exciting news? lol

some more updates from a few reliable insiders and spies, but again, let's not get too excited because this information could change....

***Madonna's manager,Caresse Henry,is going to announce the tour very soon. They are waiting to get the artwork and the image of the tour ready. The tour is going to be heavily promoted, and TRL will be involved somehow. It will all be announced the last week of March (on the 29th,according to my spy).

***Madonna seriously wants to use the name "Whore Of Babylon" but her management is pushing for something a little less provocative. The logo is going to be pretty provocative but sensual.Madonna looks amazing!

***"Hollywood" and "Material Girl" are mixed together for the 20s section of the show (part 1).The 80s section is OUT OF THIS WORLD....Madonna goes full on! "Borderline" is in the setlist.Madonna is using the Peter Rauhofer Perfect Private Life Mix of "Nobody Knows Me" for the show.

***As previously reported, the opening song will be a mix of "Bedtime Story" and "Skin" (but this could change!)

*** Madonna has been singing all the songs live with no pre-recorded vocals, and has been playing electric and acoustic guitar on a few songs

***My reliable sources have reported to me that Madonna is fuming over all the recent leaks that are being revealed concerning her 2004 world tour. She is trying to keep this tour under tight lock and key but the online leaks have put Madonna in a tizzy and she isn't happy at all. However, she can just keep on fuming because we have learned a couple more details.Homosexuality will be playing a pretty big role in this tour and Madonna will participate in some more girl-on-girl lip action. It is rumored that "Die Another Day" will now be a performance between Madonna and another female dancer. The reports of this being "crazy" are getting stronger as well,we have learned that Madonna is pulling out everything she's got and be prepared to be shocked like never before.I was told to get ready for the old Maddy to resurface with this tour.

***There will be an opening act, which might be a British artist or a new act on Maverick Records.

i do hope this changes. it's beginning to sound like madonna's version of the onyx hotel. i hope that she doesn't backtrack on all of her recent (in past few years) comments regarding moving past all that. some risque elements would be good but the whole "i can shock you more than she/he/they did" thing is so old now. it's old for britney, for janet, for christina AND for madonna.

i try to keep this perspective...i loved when madonna was vulgar and shocking. but she also didn't have kids and she wasn't 45+. when you are a mommy, you just shouldn't have a tour called "whore of babylon". it's just not cool. lol

Actually,I look at it another way.I'm glad that she is "spiritually enlightened" and has a family and all,but I never want her to stop being herself...the wild, outrageous, blonde chick that we fell in love with in the 80s.You know how we always see people on this site complaining that they miss "the old Prince"? Well,I never want to have to go to a Madonna forum and bitch about how much I miss the "old Madonna"...lol...She's proving that you can grow up,but you don't have to lose a sense of who you really are,and you don't have to be ashamed or embarassed by your past. You don't have to become a Bible-thumping,conservative prude.

i agree with a lot of that but there is apoint when you have to start presenting yourself in a mature way. you're goal in life can't always be to push people's buttons. eventually you get the desire to do what you want and present yourself in a mature manner. now, i'm not saying madonna needs to start knitting sweaters, LOL, but i think she should forget the shock and awe stunts. great...you want to incorporate something shocking into your work...how about doing more than knocking someone over the head with it. if she has a statement to make, it should be made in a way that will cause people to think not just talk about how shocking it is. you know what i mean? i do think madonna is intelligent enough to incorporate her socio-political thoughts into a well-crafted performance. surely she has some serious thoughts on gay marriage, war (both political and cultural), pop music and lfe in general. to simply pull out the red carpet for shocking stage antics is beneath her at this point.

and again, this is all under the assumption that our gossiping is true, lol.

Point well taken. It'll be interesting to see what she comes up with.I'm always impressed by Maddy's way of making her concerts more than just a concert. She want it to be an EVENT,a spectacle.I just wonder how much of these "rumors" are true? LOL

Greatest Hits tour??? She's doing more 'hits' than last time around, but that doesn't mean it's a greatest hits tour...people r just assuming. Most live versions in Madonna's shows r usually based on remixes btw... .

while never having been quoted as saying this is a hits tour, madonna did say that she recognizes the fact that her last tour was self indulgent and she would do many more hits this time around. that's not an assumption. that said, i like the idea of giving new life to older songs. if i want to hear the exact version that is on the disc, i can just listen to the disc (for free, might i add). i like when people find new interest in older work and find creative new ways to embelish previous material. why watch like a virgin the way she performed it 20 years ago? we could always just rent the virgin tour and watch THAT performance.

For a very good reason, Sassy. And that is, despite how much I love them, it is rare for a remix to surpass the original version. Good exceptions would be "Alright (7'' Remix)" from Janet and "Express Yourself (Local Mix)" from Madonna. But no, I don't want to hear a techno trance version of "Like A Prayer", thankyouverymuch. I want to SEE her perform the original hits. I don't mind fiddling with instrumentation, backing tracks, etc. but DON'T FUCK WITH THE SONG'S STRUCTURE. You do that, you meddle with perfection. It would be just as self-indulgent as the DWT if she does.

i have a feeling you may want to sit this tour out, then. i can appreciaate what you're saying but i have to stick to my opinion. it would be nothing more than a nostalgia tour if she performed those songs exactly as they were recorded. i don't know if you are one of the people who think madonna is an artist or not (i, personally do not think she is an artist but rather a genius business woman with a love for music...and fame) but if you do think she is an artist, you can probably appreciate that she has an artistic vision. if you don't think she's an artist than you should be able to appreciate that she needs to modernize older songs to get new interest from a different generation. the bottom line is, in my opinion, there is no point in madonna (with her history) to sing like a virgin or papa don't preach...unless she has something new to add to them.
but, in the end, we've all got our opinions and i can repsect what you think. perhaps she will please everyone by doing some new versions and some original versions. my only hope is that this tour is better than the drowned world tour. i am disappointed with jamie kingbeingon board. i don't like his work.

I like the idea of Madonna playing new arrangements of the old hits.I heard from insiders that the new version of "Justify My Love" totally rocks.I've played her old songs so much that I'm actually starving to hear new arrangements...lol...anyway,this is one of Maddy's many new looks for the tour...
