Saw Van Hunt Live This Weekend!

This brotha put on a pretty good show. I do believe that he catered this particular set to his rock-oriented fans (judging from the venue and the audience wink). Nevertheless, he got down and did his thing. Even incorporated EW&F's "Got To Get You Into My Life," Ohio Player's "Sweet Sticky Thing" and the synth hit from Prince's "Head" thumbs up!

Umm. Isn't that the BEATLES "I Got To Get You Into My Life"? or did he do it the way EWF did it? Just nitpicking here...

That brotha kinda sounds like Smokey Robinson a little. He's got a nice little style going on. I caught him on Soul Train. He said he plays all the instruments on his record. How long before the "Van Hunt will never measure up to Prince threads start? 10...9...8...7...6...5...

Damn!!! That must've been why he left the stage so quickly after he finished playing "Highlights." Do you know where the afterparty was?

Anyway, I was standing up against the wall (by the tables/chairs) towards the front of the stage. Awesome show! thumbs up!

I just noticed that Wendy's name is in the liner notes under the songs Precious and Hold My Hand and Randy Jackson's listed as the Exec. Producer. What's up with that?????

Yeah, Randy "American Idol" Jackson is his manager. Wendy was playing rhythm guitar on those tracks. Here's a breakdown of his songs and their meanings...

Its really cool to hear that Randy is managing the brotha. I really respect Randy's talent, the man is a BEAST on the bass and anyone who could deny that is a brain-dead twit. He did a Jazz gig back in the mid-90's with Lenny White & Patrice Rushen in some Jazz Juke Joint in Harlem and trust me when I say he was smooooocking that sucka to dusts.

Won't hurt if I said he's an amazing producer too nod

me 2. And from the looks of it, my dad and his dad should've been best friends, but I'm not exactly cherishing those memories.
Did you see VH's wife there? I heard she was the chick sellin' the CD's in the back.

Oh, okay, that was somebody else then. lol lol lol lol I was trying to figure out what song that was he came out on? Do you know the name of it? Kinda had a Curtis Mayfield-type vibe to it.

(you're talkin' bout my gurl. She had the xpensive cam. I'm the cheapie in the group! lol)
Anyways, I don't remember the first song. I do remember that he went into Anything, HIghlights, Precious and Down Here In Hell. (not neccesarily in that order) Anything past that, I don't remember. ( I have a tendency to block stuff out. Really. Whole entire periods of time. Just lost to my black hole memory.)

BTW, did you hear the blatant steal on track 3? If that intro isn't from SOTT, then I'm deaf, dumb, and blind!
Incidentally, #3 is my daughter's favorite track. My fave's are #4 and #10. I get all gushy....

on a side bar. I heard VH is gettin' screwed by Capitol Wrekas. I'd hope not.
Also, his video for dust is featured on mtv.com today. http://www.mtv.com/music/soul/
And one more thing:
Thank you, VH for letting your hair grow back out!!!!
The bald thing was aging you daaaahling.
And letting go of the turtle neck was a plus, too.
Besides that small, insignificant stuff, the video on the CD was better than the Dust vid, by itself. If he had did the dust vid combined with the snippet deallie on the CD, I'd a been a happier camper. But in this case, I'll settle for what I can get.

You mean "Hello Goodbye"? No, I don't really hear any SOTT ripoffs there. hmmm What part(s) in particular are you referring to? confuse If anything, I think his music is more along the lines of Sly during his There's A Riot Goin' On days. However, "Hold My Hand" does sound like a Prince track circa Dirty Mind era (probably moreso because Wendy is playing on there wink)

My favorite tracks are "Dust," "Anything (To Get Your Attention)," "What Can I Say," "Hold My Hand," "Out of the Sky" and "Hello Goodbye"-namely because of that funky wah-wah bassline during the chorus. headbang

yeah. "Hello Goodbye" is the one I'm talkin' about.
Right from the 5 second mark to the 10th second.
It's the same as one of P's interludes on the SOTT DVD.
(I think P used it as a scene change/interlude. Remember? That's where there's some horns that blast that sound like a train, and then the scene changes to show all of those tacky neon signs.)
