Outkast's Andre 3000 is in talks to play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming film about the rock legend, reports NME.com.

Directed by the Hughes brothers, the movie will follow Hendrix's stardom, up till his death in 1970.

But Andre 3000 cant even play a guitar so howz that gonna happen??

Who do you think played guitar on The Love Below? Andre Can play guitar... whether or not your opinion is that is he is any good, is a different story. but its true, he really can, as well as a lot instruments.. Heck, on the song Hey YA! he did everything but bass...

He wont have to play.In fact anyone they get to play the part would likely be unable to play like Jimi.Any guitar sounds that they need( as well as vocals ) can be dubbed in.
As wonderfull as she is, Angela Bassett wasnt expected to sound like Tina Turner, yet was very convincing in the role.

If only legends could play legends, there would be very very very few biopics made.

Angela was so great in that role. She got Tina's performance style just right. Robbed of the Oscar. Ironically enough, Angela was in the running for Halle Berry's role in "Monster's Ball". Something tells me she would have looked the part (and won her Oscar in the process). I was always too conscious I was watching a Revlon model.

How do you know that Andre can't act? He's never done a drama before (just a cameo in Hollywood Homicide). I assume they've screen-tested him and found him to be worthy enough.

I'm the first one to be irritated when they pull singers to act & shit is half assed. HOWEVER I like Andre as a choice to play Jimi. I can't think of anyone else that's right for it @ the moment. IF they can get him to act (act like a musician, what a stretch, lol) it could be hot. As long as the Hughes Bros. come w/ it & get Andre where he needs to go to convey Jimi's essence it'll be cool.

I used to think P could have done it back in the day. But he probably never would have surrendered himself enough to embody someone else & really bring it. Whatever - I wish the project the best & will be eager to see it... smile

How true.
My initial reaction is why don't they just let Jimi R.I.P.?
However, i'm for anything done well that keeps his memory alive.

I totally agree with you regarding Angela Bassett's portrayal of Tina Turner.
She killed that role...then again she usually kills every role she plays.
(i.e. Betty Shabazz in Malcolm X, Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream)
She's also getting some shots at producing.

Angela Bassett is criminally underappreciated, and is IMHO one of the five best actresses working today. Unfortunately, she isn't afforded the quality roles she deserves.

Andre is trying to pul a WB/Prince move from back in the day. Present yourself as great and you will be perceived as such. If Andre plays Jimi, people will ASSUME by association that Andre can play guitar well...same as when Ralph Macchio played a guitarist in "Crossroads". Rumors started that he was some great guitar player until magazines fessed up that Steve Vai was playing both parts of the guitar duel. If Andre could make people think he was good enough to play Jimi and make it coincide with his career, he can on a certain level, manipulate peoples' perceptions of his playing abilities. I hope he mimes better than he does in that silly "Hey Ya" video. Andre's no D'Angelo or Raphael Saddiq. Until I actually SEE him play something other than that MPC3000, he ain't hittin' on much to me. He ain't even good enough to tune Jimi's guitar, let alone PRETEND to be him.

I think it's a good choice...

"Now, don't HAVE me break this thing down for nothin..."
This sounds exactly like Jimi...

Now, about this little "guitar" thing.... hmm
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Actually I think he could look quite a lot like Jimi with the right make-up - he's bony just the right way. He'd need to lose some of the muscles, though. Unless it's one of those turkey Hollywood flicks, with Jessica Alba or someone starring as the female lead.

Big Boi could do Buddy Miles. No really, I think he could. In fact, they should fill the whole cast with American mainstream rappers. Obie Trice would be just perfect as Billy Cox.
