Jazz Track Of The Day(3/12/04)...Herb Alpert-Rise(1979)

This song went all the way to number one on the Billboard pop chart in 1979. Herb plays so beautiful on this awesome track(check out how he plays during the bridge). Please note, that if you're a hip hop fan you'll remember the breakdown on this song was sampled by Sean "Puffy" Combs and late rapper The Notorious B.I.G.for his number one Billboard hit "Hypnotize"in 1997. Jazz critics scoffed at Herb for this track, claiming that he was trying to go disco. However, this is a well arranged song that has held up well for over 20 years. Disco-ish yet funky. How many jazz-oriented songs you know in which you can actually do the "Electric Slide" dance off of???

Also it's worth mentioning that the whole album Rise is pretty good. Check it out.
Great late 70's music.

Enjoy,

"Rise" is a cool pop/lite-funk tune.
But NO WAY disbelief should it be considered Jazz.
