Funk classic of the day: "Hit And Run" by the Bar Kays (1981)

In 1981,The Bar Kays released 'Nightcruising' ,arguably their best 80s album. After a string of infectious funk classics in the 70s,they entered the 80s with a powerful new sound and style. But they were still funky,as the classic jam "Hit And Run" proves. It boasts a catchy, memorable synth riff and became a sizable R&B hit in late 1981.

"Hit And Run"

(written by the Bar Kays)

(chorus)
Hit and Run
you were just out for fun
I thought I was the only one
who turned you on,but I was wrong

Hit and Run
girl, you played your game so well
you really made it hard to tell
that all you were was a one-night stand

The stage was set the day we met
I thought I had the leading part
But you lied to me and led me to believe
that no one else could steal your heart

But you said you would love me good
and I thought you were here to stay
You held me tight,it felt so right
then you up and ran away...oh

(chorus)
Hit and Run
you were just out for fun
girl,I thought I was the only one
who turned you on,but I was wrong

Hit and Run
girl you played your game so well
you really made it hard to tell
that all you were was a one-night stand

I bet you know that I wanted you so
but love was never on your mind
No chance for me 'cause you had to leave
for a love of a different kind

Girl, you lied to me,led me to believe
you were gonna be here to stay
I never understood, never thought you would
turn your back and run away...oh

(chorus)
Hit and Run
girl, you were just out for fun
I thought I was the only one
who turned you on,but I was wrong

Hit and Run
girl, you played your game so well
girl, you really made it hard to tell
that all you were was a one-night stand

Hit and Run,just for fun (ooh)
Hit and Run,just for fun (on me)

Great album.....!!!!! My jam off of this one though is the slow funk ballad "Feels Like I'm Falling In Love". Oh my goodness this song is sheer greatness!!!!! Those horn riffs, the arrangements and the overall musical backdrop was virgin tight and surely on the one!!!!!

Polygram Records needs to reissue that one.

I don't think I remember this one. But "Holy Ghost" is some wicked, heavy, Funk.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
