is it true that cameo was ashamed of their funk orgins?

someone on the org posted how larry blackmoon was ashamed of them being called funk.
is that true?

c'mon u gigglies, you know who they mean.

This is an interesting story if it is true. I thought Cameo changed their sound quite drastically in the 80s, so it would make sense if at some point they thought ('70s style) Funk was PASSÉ.

If I remember correctly,Larry basically said that he didn't want Cameo to be considered strictly a "funk band" because a label like that means that they can't branch out and play different types of music.He wasn't ashamed of their funk origins,but felt that the funk band label was too restrictive.In the 80s,Cameo was playing many different styles,such as new wave ("Alligator Woman") and a few jazzy numbers.
