Any fans of Kid Creole up in this place? I recently watched an old concert with Kid Creole and the coconuts and they ripped it up!! I only wished I was there!
I can't believe I slept on this cat for so long! My mouth was wide open doing most of the concert like "they did that!!" anyways browsing through the cut outs (one of my favorite pasttimes) I stumbled across a cd of his 'Kid Creole Redux' The first track on the disc is titled 'I'm a wonderful thing. baby' That track is slamming!! It's has a really nice funk groove with the somebody funkin it up on the rhythm guitar, tight bass line and a wicked horn arrangement! :banging: The second track 'Endicott' is killer too, Has a big band feel to it, the groove just swings and bounces, it also has some pretty cool lyrics. The other tracks are growing on me, though I can't seem to get past the first 2. Some might remember the tracks "Stool Pigeon" and "Annie, I'm not your daddy" those songs still hold up pretty well after all this time. I think he's someone to see live, there's so much going on musically that the only way to truly appreciate it is to witness it happening in realtime. I know Prince wrote a track for him back in the day 'For the sex of if' I have to dig that 12 inch out and give it a spin! While watching his live show I was constantly reminded of Prince during the 'Parade' era, I wonder if there was any connection?

Kid Creole reminds me of Morris Day.The 1982 song "I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby" could have easily been recorded by The Time, dontcha think?

Whatever album the song "Consider Me" was on was the second one I bought by Kid Creole when I was a teenager. I remember he also did a tune called "Agony, Ecstasy" I think and recited a poem by Shakespeare (he used to be an English teacher I believe). I took some literature courses last summer and when we started to read the poem I was like "oh yeah!" but since I was the oldest student in the class no one else could get with what I was remembering... Rise up

Well, I knew of him I guess I just didn't hear enough of him on the radio back in the day. I'll never be, I'll never be, Like Endicott, no Endicott in me!

I saw this cat and his band back around '95/'96, and it was a really small venue in my town (my town is real small anyway!) and it was SUCH a good FUN show. My friend and I had an absolute BALL!
My only disapointment was that he didnt drop 'The SeX of It' - their version is better than Prince's (I know it was only a rough/guide demo anyway) the production on it is PHAT! Do urself a favour, if they ever swing by your neighbourhood - check em out!
