70s R&B Tune of the Moment: "Shakey Ground" by The Temptations (1975)

First of the Temptation's post Norman Whitfield productions.
The story goes that the musicians on this cut included original Funkadelic bassman William Nelson, Melvin "Wah Wah" Ragin and another Funkadelic alumni guitarist Eddie Hazel.

Lady luck and the four leaf clover
Won't be as hurt as I feel all over
My life for one special occasion
'Til you leave in depth the situation

Well well well standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down
Standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down

My car got repossessed this morning
Harder times I haven't seen in years
Able to throw me a life preserver
'Cos I'm about to drown in my own tears

Well well well standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down
Standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down

Well well well standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down

Standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down
Standing on shakey ground
Ever since you put me down

Well well well standing on shakey ground
Shaking, shakey ground
Standing, standing
Standing on shakey ground

Way before "Housequake" the Temps were shaking stuff up with this joint. Love it! It's on disk 4 of their 5CD box set "The Temptations: Emperors of Soul." worship

I've always wondered who the original song was by... I've heard two covers of this song only, but never the original. One of the covers was by Fishbone, who did a good job of it.

The other one was (believe it or not) a duet with Don Henley and Elton John. eek

Yep. It's not as awful as you'd think! Anyway, I really need to hear the original now that I know.

This song is funky as hell. Fishbone's cover of it is even funkier.
