50's Song Of The Weekend...Jackie Wilson-Reet Petite(1956) Brother 9/15 taking you back to the 50's on this one.....This was the first hit for one of the greatest showmen ever.....Mr. Jackie Wilson. Jackie had it all.....an amazing voice....the looks.....dance steps...(he could turn backover flips on stage also}...and an overall stage presence to behold(driving women in a frenzy was all in a day's work for this brotha). You can surely hear his influence on Elvis on this track which was written by Berry Gordy Jr. Jackie was the man back in the day NO DOUBT. Alot of times he would get crappy material to sing in the studio....as a result his records were sometimes inconisistent. But on stage, this man definitely bought it. He's an obvious influence on MJ also who quoted him as one of his teachers.
Enjoy, Brother 9/15 [This message was edited Sun Mar 7 16:26:07 2004 by BRO915]

Sorry to tell you guys, but it is Jackie who is doing the immitation of Elvis in this song. I believe he even mentioned it himself. Notice how that is the only time he ever sang in that style?

Just the other day I was watching tv and I heard someone mention how Elvis gave props to Jackie. Oh, and check out the sleevenotes from this best of comp: "Even during his lifetime, Jackie was the subject of some outstanding testimonials from those trained to recognise musical pedigree when they see and hear it. Motown founder Berry Gordy, who had a hand in writing many of Jackie's early hits, calls him "the epitome of natural greatness (who) set the standard I would be looking for in artists forever", while Elvis Presley saw Jackie fronting vocal group the Dominoes in Las Vegas and was so impressed "I went back four nights straight!" To make sure he got it right! It was as a live performer that Wilson, born in Detroit in 1934, made his name. Indeed, the title of a recent book - The Black Elvis - is in no way misleading in terms of reaction to his stunning stage act. Not for nothing was he dubbed 'Mr Excitement'. Hey, when did Elvis do a back flip?!
