New jack swing: re-evaluation is definately needed!

I don't mind the fact that I'm one of the few people who still like the genre of music known as "New jack Swing", for years after it dissapeared, I forgot about it too but now I love it again!

So many people diss the music of "NewJack" and to me the whole genre (which is a mix of rnb/hip-hop/pop, with melodies, harmonies etc...) is possibally the most underappreciated in HISTORY! I know that Nirvana and albums like Dr Dre's "The chronic" killed Newjack, but with now the emphesis on boring laid back rythmic patterns (almost all the time), modren music has been dull for way to long! NewJack had very in yo face and upfront rythems with ultra prominant drum machine patterns and multi-tracked or hamonised vocalling and after this was reversed by mellow sounding shit (which was fine for a couple of years), now it's just DULL!

Admittedly things in general have gotten more up-tempo in the last couple of years but shit like the Neptunes who are really supposed to be cutting edge, are relying on minimalistic shit that is hard to dance too! Remember the latter half of the 90's on the pop/rnb scene when everything was so laid back and boring sounding, thank goodness snorathon D-angelo's gone and the same for the Fugees! Yes at first this music was alright but it got so wishy washy and bland- that shit ain't soul at all!

In some ways, thank goodness that Britney Spears and Nsync etc came along! Yes they may be manufactured, but at least pop music was fun and FRESH SOUNDING again! (and the videos were good to watch too, not just would-be gangsta's posing, trying to look hard under stupid mini film productions that nobody really cared if the video had a plot or not!)

Justin T is alright and Michales Invincible showed on the uptempo tracks how exciting pop could of been but unfrotunately we got more Neptunes ringtone sounding shit and now and it's time for some NEWJACK related artist or group to blow up again!

The genre has been forgotten and ridiculed for WAY TO LONG NOW! No club play any NewJack for some reason (it may sound dated-but now it sounds fresh again!) and why the hell is disco so highly regarded on retro stations and clubs anyway- Newjack needs at least some more reckognition as it transended many genres creating a innocent but funky and positive type of music that keeps you open minded about lots of genres of music (as it mixes so many) and Newjack covers artists from Bobby Brown-NWA (to some extent), to New kids on the Block-Janet and Michael etc.....

Time for a re-evaluation of a genre in desperate need of some attension! Grundge was a welcome change from Newjack at the time but too depressing for long periods of time! Current trends- better than mid 90's-late 90's efforts but the Neptunes/50 cent-eminem, now too watered down! Eminem is WAY OVERATED! Talented but has to be EVERYWHERE and on everything when a a single drops! He thinks the world revolves around him! At least 50 doesn't seem so arrogent... anyway

(Eminems/d-12's latest song "My band", very dissapointing (and I don't mind some of their stuff) and no longer funny!)

Hey Newjack, we need you back!

Anyone like Newjack? Thing it needs some love by someone! Time for a change?

Neptunes didn't do the Usher song "YEAH" , but that's a perfect description for some of the minimalistic synth noises that are annoying as all hell.

NWA new jack????? kind of lost me there,New Jack had some good stuff while it ran it's course...the first Guy album is still bangin, even some stuff off of Karyn Whites first album,Johnny Kemp,Bpbby Brown,Al B.sure.but even these artists abandoned that sound for something more updated.

Yeah,I knew that was kinda risky and i take that back, but they were funky but in a different way, but to be honest, Wrecks n effect are newjack (in the rap catorgory) and NWA wer'nt that far off (nothing was really in black music or pop back then!)

what I think of when I think of New Jack swing...is high energy dance, with infectious drumm programming as you mentioned, definitely hip hop over tones, with r&b vocals, even alot of rap was NJS influenced you right wreckx N effect,Heavy D.&the boyz,Kwame...etc...the whole image vibe...polka dots, button up suits with the baggie pants, high top fades, gumby fades.NWA still doesn't come close to me when I think of NJS I guess coming of age in southern california I knew cats that were just like NWA who lived and are still living there life the way that these guys rapped about, and they were not jumping around doing the running man to "my peragotive" either.
