JANFAN4L said: AFY had its moments. When I first heard the album it sounded so euphoric. Still does, but I don't return to it as much as I do TVR or her earlier projects. When you come off an introspective, critically acclaimed record like TVR, you're bound to come in with high expectations. AFY depended a little too much on "proven formulas" and didn't really break much artistic ground like her previous LPs. It seemed like an album that was vying for TRL approval. The interludes were semi-decent (nowhere near as memorable as RN1814's, TVR or even janet.'s, for that matter). I liked "2wayforyou" and "Clouds." My favorite songs on the album are the title track, You Ain't Right, When We Oooo, China Love, Love Scene (Oooh Baby), Trust A Try (it's a shame this wasn't made into a music video), Would You Mind, Truth, Doesn't Really Matter (although I think the Rockwilder-produced album version sucks and the original Nutty Professor 2 SDTK version should've been included on the album), and Someone To Call My Lover.
I hated the "Clouds" interlude and "2wayforyou" was cute but I loved the ones where she just talked. I don't think they were supposed to be interludes. I also feel you on the oringinal "Doesn't Really Matter". THe only improvement is this very little moment where Janet shouts "Whoo!" toward the end. I'm not 100% sure on this but I think that Def Jam paid soemthing like one million for the song and prehaps specfically that verison so maybe they had to alter it in order to put it on AFY. Hmmm...Also "Doesn't Really Matter" is not on the AFY video collection...Hmmm again!

It would be wise to guess that the single word titles are slow R&B jams. "All Nite (Don't Stop)" has to be a club track. You know, I mean you just know that "R&B Junkie" is [i]the[/b] rock track. I was thinking "Country" might have been a country song but it's an interlude. Maybe "Slo Love" will surprise us and be a coutnry song and not the predictable slow song is sounds like! "Island LIfe" has to have slow breezy island groove to it or it will be dancehall. I have no idea what I'm talking about so anyone else with guesses?

People described "What'll I Do" as being "country", but I hear more of a classic rock vibe in it, and I LOVE that song. I think it's definitely one of her most underrated. It was especially good live, when she performed it at some cities on the [i]janet. tour.

Here's a possibility: "Strawberry Bounce" may contain a sample of "Strawberry Letter 23" by the Brothers Johnson. Janet has always said she loves this song.
What do you think? That's just my guess.

What do you think? That's just my guess. That would be cool be unfornately Beyonce has already done it. However, Janet is very good at using samples so I look forward to it.

I just say the list of producers. She doesn't seem to be writing as much on this one. Example, not writing credit for "Thinkin' About My X" or "I Want You". Glad to see that Jimmy and Terry are involved on most of the tracks. Did I mention I can't wait for this album? I don't think I've looked forward to an album like this for a while!

Cathy's written 5 UK number one hits in the past 4 years (including Britney's "Toxic", #1 this week by a massive margin). Not sure about her songwriting stats in the US, but "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" made #7 and "Toxic" will surely go top 5. That's probably why she's in demand [This message was edited Tue Mar 9 11:38:23 2004 by VoicesCarry]

"Strawberry Bounce" probably doesnt use part of "Strawberry Letter 23". Originally it was originally recorded and written by Shuggie Otis (although the Brothers Johnson made it a hit) and no credit like that appears on the information for that song. I think, as Martha would say, this is a good thing since Beyonce already used it. It seems like quite a lot of people wrote "Strawberry Bounce" though.
