R&B Classic of the Day: "Tears" by Force M.D.s (1984)

In the fall of 1984,everybody was swept up in Prince's 'Purple Rain' movie, album, and tour. But there were alot of other great songs that came out during that period. On the R&B side, one of the best songs was "Tears" by the Force M.D.s.This song features wonderful harmonies, heartfelt lyrics and soaring vocals by a group that was truly underrated.I've always felt that,if New Edition wasn't on the scene, these guys would have been the top male vocal R&B group of the 80s.Follow-up singles like "Here I Go Again" and "Love Is A House" are superb, but nothing can top the soulful "Tears",which features an impressive Old School sound and feel (in their heyday, groups like The Stylistics and Blue Magic would have killed for a song like this).Crying has never felt this good...lol...

"Tears"

(written by Antione Lundy,R.Halpin and K.LeBlanc)

As the sun sets and the night goes around
I can feel my emotions coming down
But now I pull the covers off my bed
Saying to myself "Tonight I'll forget"

(chorus)
Tears,tears
falling like the rain
Tears,tears
another heart knows my pain

Tears,tears
all the tears your heart wouldn't hide
Tears,tears
now the tears become a good cry

If I could go back and change the hands of the clock
my heart would be sinking when you heard it tick-tock
for the one that I love has gone far,far away
it gets harder and harder to face another day

(chorus)
Tears,tears
falling like the rain
Tears,tears
another heart knows my pain

Tears,tears
all the tears your heart wouldn't hide
Tears,tears
now the tears become a good cry

Every night
when I lay my head down to sleep (down to sleep)
I hope and pray
that this will be the last time I weep

I've heard it said
that a man is not supposed to cry
he ain't supposed to cry
But love is blind
and you will see that it's the reason why I cry

(chorus)
Tears,tears (ho,ho,ho)
falling like the rain (tears)
Tears,tears
another heart knows my pain

Forget,forget
I keep saying to myself
but realizing
that there'll be nobody else

(repeat chorus)
