80s Pop Classic of the Day: "Make A Move On Me" by Olivia Newton-John (1981) Okay, you can stop laughing now Olivia is probably the only artist we HAVEN'T already discussed on this forum.
Olivia Newton-John was no joke. After a string of mellow soft-rock hits in the early 70s,she literally changed her tune in 1978.That's the year she starred in the hit movie musical "Grease",and from that point on,she was no longer the sweet, innocent angel...lol...her songs became more sexier and more aggressive.By 1981,she was urging her lover to get "Physical" with her ("there's nothing left to talk about unless it's...horizontally").But the follow-up single "Make A Move On Me" is even better. It's a sexy, midtempo synth-laden pop classic, filled with clever double-entendres that the "I Honestly Love You"-era Olivia would have never sung...lol... "Make A Move On Me" (wriiten by John Farrar/Tom Snow) I can tell you got plans for me and your eyes are saying you made them carefully But tonight I have to say there just might be another way won't you spare me all the charms and take me in your arms I can't wait,I can't wait (chorus) I'm the one you want, that's all I wanna be So come on baby make a move on me Got nowhere to go,all my time is free So come on baby make a move on me tonight I can't wait,I can't wait You made the prettiest speech I've heard but a single touch surely is worth a thousand words to a heart that's open wide and from the start was on your side won't you spare me all the charms and take me in your arms I can't wait,I can't wait (chorus) I'm the one you want, that's all I wanna be So come on baby make a move on me Got nowhere to go,all my time is free So come on baby make a move on me tonight I can't wait,I can't wait I'm the one you want, that's all I wanna be so come on baby make a move on me Got nowhere to go,all my time is free So come on baby make a move on me tonight I can't wait,I can't wait

I remember having a poster of her on my wall back in the 70s.It was from a scene in "Grease" where she's dressed up like a cheerleader

a funny story that I once heard....
***In spring 1984,Olivia and her husband attended an industry screening of "Purple Rain".Much to her husband's dismay, she spent the entire time drooling over Prince, talking about how sexy he is,etc...lol...I'm surprised that she and Prince never worked together.

She basically disappeared for four years after the Physical album (unless you count "Two Of A Kind", with Cliff Richard, and her the-less-said-about-it-the-better film reunion with Travolta). Then she returned in 1985 with more synth pop, Soul Kiss. Anyone remember this album? I thought not. It was a massive bomb, Olivia's Erotica so to speak. A topless Olivia in dominatrix poses in the "Soul Kiss" video and songs about threesomes (among other things) just did not mesh with the public's conception of her.
"Soul Kiss" was still a sexy single, though. [This message was edited Fri Mar 5 5:03:13 2004 by VoicesCarry]

I maybe listened to it 2 or 3 times and then it got stuck in the shelve... I'm not saying it's bad or anything, it's just that my musical interests had shifted with time and wasn't interested like I was the years before Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. Dancelot said: the Xanadu Soundtrack I played to death You know,I've never seen the movie "Xanadu",what's it like? I always assumed it was just some cheesy musical ala "Can't Stop The Music" (a really silly movie starring The Village People (!) that came out around the same time). But I liked the soundtrack... "you have to believe we are Magic...nothing can stand in our way"

"you have to believe we are Magic...nothing can stand in our way" Xanadu... well, the storyline is somewhat.... embarassing 2 say the least I haven't seen it since it was in cinemas back then as a teenager, but as far as I can remember a muse steps down from heaven in order to help 2 guys to open a disco.... well..... ..... bollocks! fuck the story, the girl & the music was hot!! I haven't seen the Village People movie though... and I don't have the feeling I missed a lot LOL Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!
