Usher dismisses Justin Timberlake as a faker and follower

WENN reports that Usher has spoken out against Justin Timberlake, accusing the *NSYNC star of not having the originality to take away his crown as the 'King of R&B.' Usher says, "I think when you guys put Justin Timberlake in the category of being a follower it shows that he can't be a leader. That's not good. It kind of worries me that every time that question comes up, Justin Timberlake is taking the spot. I wouldn't want to be a follower, would you? I wanna lead in my own category. So I'll go ahead and put it out there if Justin hasn't already. There'll never be another Usher. There'll never be a spot filling if you know what I mean."

OK, who is going around crowning and re-crowning everybody? I mean damn it's like....

King of Pop - Justin Timberlake (STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS)
King of R&B - Usher (WHAT? SINCE WHEN?)
Princess of Hip Hop & R&B - Ashanti (RIGHT?)

Oh, and let me guess, soon we'll hear (if we haven't already)...

Queen of R&B - Beyonce
King of Rap/Hip Hop - 50 Cent
Queen of Pop - Britney Spears

What is going on?

Um, after the way he acted after "The Incident", I haven't been a Justin Timberlake fan, but who the hell does Usher think he is? Like JanFan said, since when has he been the "King of R&B"?
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

I can go around and say that I'm the "king of rock" but that doesn't make it true. The only person that would call Usher the king of anything is Usher.

Besides, I thought the media had already labeled R. Kelly as the so-called current king of R&B? Or maybe that was pre-scandal?

LOL! Yeah, wasn't the wonderful and talented Bobby Brown already crowned the King of R&B! I don't think my girl Whitney would be too happy with this latest news. confused

All of these folks being crowned queen of this and king of that...it really doesn't mean anything anymore. Back in the day, it really meant something because MJ truely was the King of Pop. Nobody came close to him as far as sales and popularity.

It also meant something that Aretha is the Queen of Soul. But these days everytime a new singer sells over a million, they're called a princess or queen or king. It's gotten so bad that a 16-year-old girl from England is being pushed on the market as the heir to Aretha's title of queen of soul.

It's crazy to call Timberlake the king of anything. He's a male version of Britney -- all style, no substance. wink

Whitney Houston-Queen of Crack!

As much as I despise Timberlake (mostly for his attitude after nipplegate and playing it safe and being adorded), Usher really as no room to talk about following with something like "Yeah!" being forced on my ears!

I hate to break it to Usher, but there are a MILLION singers who sound just like he does. And there were a lot of them before anyone even knew who the hell he was! Just like there will be a lot more when he's a footnote in music history. Saying stupid shit is one thing, but when you say it in print, you REALLY look like an asshole. Usher doesn't seem to realize that he isn't (and really has never been) all that groundbreaking either, and he's basically imitating a lot of the R&B singers before him.

did mj crown himself the king of pop? i don't think that the honor was bestowed upon him by anyone other than himslef.

I totally agree with you about joss stone being pushed as the queen of soul. rolleyes why can't singers just be singers and if they end up being any good their fans can give them royal titles. this stuff pisses me off. has there always been this much crap music out there?

I think we have the media to blame, partially. But the current state of music is so fucked up right now. If Aretha Frankling were coming up now she probably wouldn't even get a record deal or if she did it would be some small label and she wouldn't sell too much. Image has completely overtaken talent. I think that with MTV it really messed up labels prorities. They stopped looking for people with talent and started looking for people who were aesthetically pleasing. There are some very talented singers/musicians out there right now. It's too bad that they aren't getting the push that the current crop of media whores are.

By the way, I've never heard the album but didn't the Neptunes write all of Justin's CD? Where would he be without them?

Usher is good, but he can't play a lick, he's an okay singer, and he uses recycled hip-hop samples. He's not even a courtesan of R&B. Stevie, Al, Michael, Prince, and a handful of others could dis JT like this, but not JT's black counterpart, Usher. Usher is prolly frustrated because a white cat is supposedly "taking" his record sales, but he overestimates his talent and his appeal.
