Solange Knowles Marries Daniel Smith in the Bahamas

NEW YORK, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Singer/songwriter/actress Solange
Knowles has announced her recent marriage to Daniel Smith, a college football
player from her native Houston. Solange and Daniel were married in the Bahamas
last weekend.
Surrounded by her large extended family -- including her parents, Mathew
and Tina Knowles, her sister Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Angela Beyince--
Solange exchanged vows with Daniel at sunset in a beautiful seaside ceremony.
"I am excited about this new phase in my life," said Solange. "I am very
happy and feel truly blessed to have the unconditional love and support of my
parents and my entire family."
Solange Knowles' upcoming projects include a co-starring role in her first
feature film, "Johnson Family Vacation," the release of her second CD, and a
starring role in a still-unnamed new sitcom on UPN. Knowles will also
continue her work as a celebrity spokesperson against teen violence.

Agreed. Sounds like Solange did the same thing that LaToya Jackson did to escape an overbearing father. The pressure on Solange in the Knowles household is probably very overwhelming.

Her big sister Beyonce has a hit album, a solo career, movie roles, product endorsements, and an armload of Grammy Awards. While Solange released an album that went nowhere. She probably feels like she needs to get away in order to try to get something going for herself.

There are parallels between Solange Knowles and Janet Jackson. Janet Jackson was trying to make a show biz career for herself, but it was difficult because everyone just saw her as Michael Jackson's kid sister. Janet had minimal music success until she cut all management ties with her father and sought out her own producers. It was only after Janet removed her father from managing her career that she was able to step out of Michael's shadow and become a star.

The same may turn out to be true for Solange. She will have to step out of Beyonce's shadow before anyone will take her seriously.

Actually, their names are of French origin as Tina Knowles' is from a creole family that hails from Louisiana; I've known many a Solange from down in the bayou, and Beyoncè's name is actually taken from her grandmother's family name of Beyincè. They got plenty of 'em down there.

I completely agree. I was really surprised when I saw my classmates and people in the class year below me getting married the year I graduated and after.17,18...seems a little rushed to me. I'm 20 and I couldn't imagine marrying anyone now,let alone when I was 17. Honestly, I think she might have some baby news soon as well.
