Just bought Amel Larrieux's "Bravebird" and I'm in love with it.

...and I'm in love with it.

I popped it into my CD player and I can't get it out. Amel's voice has become even more richer. This is a great and long-awaited follow up to Infinite Possibilites -- that was a hard album to top. But I'm loving this album and its grooves. Every song on the album is good. Currently, my favorites are Say You Want It All, Congo, Dear To Me, All I Got, We Can Be New and my absolute favorite which is...

Sacred
(A. Larrieux, L. Larrieux)

Is there nothing sacred anymore
when
celebrities are deified
and we're still calling some countries third world
and
crimes against little ones
are punished with little laws
and
girls are taught to hide their curves
as though they're flaws
and other girls are taught to expose them but not own
them and
boys are taught
they can own it all

is there nothing sacred anymore
in the 21st century
and I still get followed 'round in stores
and
governments are using our money for
reasons other than what they say they're using it for
and
small countries fold as their
big debt keeps on growing and
silent pain is golden under the guise of religion and
boys are taught
they can own it all

is there nothing sacred anymore
well maybe there never was, at all

I recommend purchasing this album. It's on sale for only $8.99. Great price! Great album!

Where did you buy it for that price? I was thinking of checking Virgin Megastore this week.

You'd drink her bathwater, but would you buy her music? Take a chance on this talent.

I already have it. I just haven't looked at the case in a while. Been listening to her since Groove Theory.

I love the range of topics on this record. She is the first R&B/Neo-soul/whatever-you-wanna-label-her artist to sing about topics as diverse as female genital mutilation (Bravebird) and the rememberance of the middle passage and African ancestors (Congo) on one record. I don't know too many artists in the past five years willing to mention that kind of stuff. Maybe that's partially why she went indie. I hope her the best of success.
