Jazz Track Of The Weekend...Grover Washington Jr.- Let It Flow For Dr. J (1981) Grover was an avid basketball(Philadelphia 76ers)fan and he just wanted to pay tribute to one of his favorite players. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Grover's playing on this is beyond words. Jazz critics have stated that Grover is partly to blame for inducing smooth jazz to the music world because of the album Winelight, but in 1981, this album was a big deal and A VERY GOOD JAZZ RECORD. Of course this album gave us the big hit "Just The Two Of Us" featuring Bill Withers. However, this song has the same effect of watching Mr. Julius Erving up in the air in full flight dunking the ball with AUTHORITY. As a tribute to him, that pretty much says it all.
Grover main asset was his ability to fuse jazz and funk for undeniably great results. This song is an example of the great jazz player and overall artist Grover was. R.I.P. Grover Enjoy, Brother 9/15 [This message was edited Sun Feb 29 8:45:56 2004 by BRO915] | |
