kayne west everybody makes this big deal about how great this guy is and i think that i may be missing something. it seems to me that every song that he's involved with just has some old sped up song in the background. it's tiresome. has he done any songs that differ from that sped up old song formula?

Have u picked up the CD? That will definitley change your mind. But if not. There is a awesum song called "Kanye's Workout Plan" track #11. it is Funky! The whole album is not about that bullshit rap about ice, and rollin and all that bullshit. It is a must have rap album of this year. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

He's different. I like his production. THat's what hip hop is...wait that's what post modernism is...the age we are living in. Taking old and making it new....among many other things. Kanye's rhymes are not about guns, fighting, pushing rocks, ice, or cars. He rhymes about introspective things. Through the Wire makes a reference to Emmit Tiel (Forgive my spelling). In the album he talks about the cost of having things but an empty self esteem, family problems, and my favorite...Kanye's work out. I like him....you don't have to go deep into the woods like Andre 3000. He is right there on the cusp of introspective and hot "traditional" hip hop. I think he's quite a renaissance man (again, forgive my spelling). He also performed at my entertainment summit in July...and almost weeks later...he exploded nationally....he's a weird guy, but brilliant. If you like Kanye, I suggest you also take a listen to Little Brother, they're from my neck of the woods, Durham, NC. They were on MTV's you hear it first. Check out abbrecords.com and click on them. The industry's abuzz with them. 9th Wonder their producer, just did a track for Jay-Z's Black Album....They're making moves!

Love the shit outta that song & I like "To the Wire" too (or whatever it's called). Never thought about picking up the album but I might. The scariest thing for me right now is that "You Don't Know My Name" is finally growing on me I think it's b/c Mos Def is in the video

Most of the greatest hip-hop tracks have samples. That's hip-hop!!! Clearly this person doesn't know the history of rap music.

Most of the greatest hip-hop tracks have samples. That's hip-hop!!! Clearly this person doesn't know the history of rap music. i know that some of the greatest hip-hop songs have samples but it all in the way you use your samples. if you can be creative with it then that's cool but when it's the same old shit over and over and over, it can get tiresome. Example: "slow jamz" sped up old song in the background, 'through the wire" sped up old song in the background, "it all falls down" sped up old song in the background. add it all together and it equals tiresome and not some of the greatest hip hop of all time. you can dislike a hip hop artist or song and not dislike the entire genre. no need to be presumptive asshole, dearie.

What the hell are you talking about?! "All Falls Down" is not sped up and it's an interpolation of Lauryn Hill's song "Mystery of Iniquity" which only came out a little over a year ago. How fuckin' creative can you get with looping a damn song? Please provide examples of what you're talking about because there really isn't that much creativity with sampling. And by the way... no need to be presumptive asshole, dearie.
I accept your apology, shit for brains.

I accept your apology, beautiful goddess of all that is good. excuse my mistake, maybe i should have said that all of his songs sound the same and use the same formula. that was the point of my post. not that sampling isn't used in hip hop, just that his songs sound tired. if the rest of his album is supposed to be so great then why don;t they release one of the songs that sounds better or different? I do like 'through the wire' but it doesn;t sound that great after i've heard two or three other song that sound just like it. anyway, i shouldn't even have responded to your insulting post that had absolutely nothing to do with the topic. I would have expected a reaction like that if this thread was bashing hip hop and rap music as a whole but it's out of place on a thread asking other's opinions about an artist and examples of his other work. And what apology are you expecting? i posted the truth and i'm certainly not apologizing for that!
