Super Heavy 70's Soul Song Of The Day(2/24/04)-Wilson Pickett-Don't Let The Green Grass Fool You(1970)

One of my very favorite soul songs of all time. Like Bobby Womack, this man puts his heart and soul it seems in every line he sings. You can truly hear his influence on Terrence Trent D'arby(with his vocal phrasing) and on Prince(the soulful shouting and screaming).

I love the song because though his vocal delivery he brillantly converys every thing he is feeling.....disbelief, paranoia, and intense pain as his woman is seeing some other guy.

"Girl, try to remember when we didn't have no shoes
We stuck together, just me & you
It took a long time to get what we got today
Now you wanna give it all up for another guy

Don't let the green grass fool you
Don't let it change your mind"

Wilson serving up some of that Hot Buttered Philly Soul!!!! And this song is truly a lesson to a lot of these second rate r&B singers now-a-days on how to lay down soul vocals.

I LOVE IT....I LOVE IT.....I LOVE IT!!!!!

Great stuff!!!!

UptownDeb

Yay! A shout to Wilson Pickett! Of course, I remember this song. But, I'm a little partial to "Deborah." wink

I remember this old United Negro College Fund commercial that used to air. He's on stage singing some song: Take a look in the mirror, and look at yourself, don't you know... He was wearing white pants and a shear white shirt. I thought he was HOT! love

I saw him recently on this infomercial about 60's classics with Nile Rodgers.

Oh, and I actually heard a Wilson Pickett reference during a baseball game. Whuddathunkit? Announcer Tim McCarver--who seems to know a little about everything--said, "Pick-it, Wilson" during a pick-off attempt. smile
