Milkshake WTF?

This thread is not meant to offend anyone who might be a fan, but last night I finally saw the video for this song and I have to say I was totally disgusted. I know many people on this site like this singer and her video, but I thought it was a disgrace and a fine example of how low the music/video industry has gotten. The song sucks, she doesn't have a good voice IMO and how much tits and ass does any video need?? Some of you might call me an old prude, but that's far from who I really am. I enjoy sexuality, fun and down right debauchery at times, but this video hits an all time low! I wouldn't walk across the street to meet this chick and I wouldn't take her cd if she was giving it away. Total crap!

there's actually another video for Milkshake that i saw on www.ultimatekelis.com that's way better than the one that was released. The sexuality is much more playful and fun and you can actually see what's going on whereas the video that got released is dark and crappy. The only reason that I can think of as to why they didn't release the good version is because the startrak logo appears in a few places and kelis is supposedly on the outs with them.

i like the song. But then i think pretty much all of kelis' music is far superior to a lot of drab, standard r&b out there.

the video is a bit weird though. She never used to have this "i'm a sex symbol" thing going on did she?

Then again, if she want's to gyrate and cover herself with milkshake, i ain't complaining. wink

The song sucks. All tuneless, sweaty synths. Completely unoriginal. The lyrics might be descriptive of a dog in heat, and that's what Kelis sounds like. Not very sexy to me.

Kelis says "I'm not going to sell out", but then the label heads wave some cash in front of her and she starts losing weight and slutting it up. The video is incredibly stupid. Blenders overflowing with milkshakes? Kelis sucking a milkshake through a straw with a provocative look on her face? Kelis taking two breast-shaped loaves out of the oven? What are we, three years old?

Fortunately the ALBUM is much better. Of course the worst song on the album, "Milkshake", will be the hit, but isn't that always the way? The label won't have the balls to release a song as good as "Millionaire" as a single (even with the soaring popularity of Andre 3000); instead they've picked the boring Nas duet "In Public" (can you guess what that's about? Yup, sex in public. zzz).

Yep, maybe there is a different version of the video in Australia because VoicesCarry described the trash I saw to the tee!

I think I may be the biggest perv on p.org but I thought the video was nasty. I kinda want to imagine what people would look like with their clothes off. You know? Plus, I love her music and want more from her than that.

In the Aussie version, she's just slinking around a milkbar, making milkshakes and acting sexy. Nothing wrong with that!

Remember when she first debuted with "Caught Out There"? People were labeling her as a wild, implusive "man-hater" and classifying her as R&B's Alanis Morrisette. She definitely shed that image with this LP. I liked the way-leftfield vibe of her first and second LPs. Her live shows back in the early noughties were above and beyond what other R&B artists were doing in concert. Tasty seems to cater to fitting on mainstream radio playlists a bit too much, but the record still has cool tracks like Glow and Millionaire (which I hope become singles). Trick Me is still bumpin'.

Her team is trying their damn-est to have her cross over and have mass appeal. I'm not going to a Britney show to see Kelis (even though I love her work), that's not my style. I will definitely see her if she tours with Saadiq.

Kelis' 15 minutes are almost up. Her song is terrible and she's really not that talented.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but in my opinion she won't be around for very long. She'll be hangin with Blu Cantrell soon enough.

I have that feeling, too. She has a mediocre voice, and not much to offer otherwise. I mean, it's still a good album, but the best tracks are the best because of the people on them, the writers and producers. Not her (although she does share writing credits on "In Public" and "Millionaire" - I believe she's responsible for the "what's a girl to do..." refrain").

I keep wondering what these tracks would sound like with someone like Donna Summer singing them, instead of someone who sounded like your next door neighbour.

I always thought the song was cool, the video is poor quality, the could've done much better and noticed for some reason, over-rated on this site.

To tell the truth, I had NO idea "Milkshake" was going to blow up the way it did. I always thought Kelis would remain a cult figure in R&B with a small, but intensely clannish following. She proved us wrong when she switched to Arista, so I don't know what to expect next.

commercially, no she won't last. but kelis has a large r&b following that will still be there after the machine has tired of her.

I havne't seen the video, but based on what people are describing, it almost seems like it would be more shocking if she was Cabbage-Patchin' in a nun's habit! I like sex and sexuality but enough is enough already.

Nope that's pretty much it. I'd rather just listen to the tune than watch the video.

Am I missing a different version too in the UK?

What's wrong with it is that it isn't sexy in an intelligent way, like Prince songs are. It's just "shot of symbolic overflowing blenders, shot of Kelis writhing around with milkshakes, shot of Kelis shooting a "just-been-fucked" look at a guy". BORING. Since basically every R&B video is oversexed, it would be nice just for once to see one that wasn't.

omg maybe my ears are screwed but i like her voice. And my problem with the video i suppose is that it's a bit half-assed.
I like trash and debauchery, but this is kind of a feeble attempt which lies somewhere in the middle.

Fun.

She is taking a crap out of all the titty shaking video's EVERYBODY in the US seems to be making.

And I love her for it. She's a fun lady. I had to laugh SO hard when at the end she is SLURPING her milkshake. Anybody not realizing they are played is dumb.

This thread is as useless as all the hoopla about one nekkid titty in a tv-show.

Go get a life.
