Old School R&B/Jazz Track Of The Day(2/16/04): Roy Ayers- The Third Eye My favorite song from this underrated, yet highly influential artist. In the 70's, artists like him and The Blackbyrds had a lock on that r&b-jazz audience with songs like this.
Songs like this in the 70's were kind of common. Where you get one verse of lyrics followed by a instrumental break in the middle ..followed by the second verse of lyrics before the songs end. Furthermore, the music and lyrics goes hand and hand as Roy offers up mystical spirituality. The musicians take great solos on this piece as well. The climax with those awesome background vocalists closes the song out on a grand fashion. A Roy Ayers Tour De Force to be exact. This is from his 1976 album Everybody Loves The Sunshine.
