A very pregnant Erykah Badu rocked LA last night! Erykah played a stunning TWO HOUR show at the Universal Amphitheatre (sp?) in Los Angeles last night. Funky, Soulful, Spiritual. She danced and sang and just had so MUCH energy even though she looked a good six or seven months pregnant. She had really cool "spoken word" interludes where she talked about CHAKRAS from the Sanskrit meaning "wheels" I believe, or from the Yoga handbook or maybe some Hindu text. Reminded me of Joseph Cambell and his "follow your bliss," mantra. Anyway, the show was heavy on "spirituality" delivered with a sense of humor, of course. The standout tracks were from her current "Worldwide Underground," record. Songs like "Woo," "Bump it," and "Back in the day," brought the house down...during "Back in the day," the crowd event chanted the "puff" lyric, surprising Erykah and the band. The show was flawless in my opinion. Was anyone else there? ERYKAH "back in the day when things were cool we used to meet up with these dudes then we'd roll out on hopes and truths and would ride around the park till its after dark pumpin the trunk with the windows rolled up, puff..." "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

Good to hear.. I just scored a ticket to see her tomorrow night. Questlove said (posted on Okayplayer site) the crowd may have thought the interludes were annoying.. hope they won't be. Hmm, wonder who the babydaddy is??? Very interesting..
