What Timberlake did was try to reinvent himself from some mickey mouse club boy into a street savvy man. Most of the production on NSYNC's Celebrity had a decided r&b feel to it, so when the Neptunes written Girlfriend crossed over..it opened the door for the soul knockoff ballad Gone, which then opened the door for Timberlake's heavy r&b influenced solo album. Did he even have a white person in his band at the grammys? (not counting the horns?) You ever see NSYNC with a band like that? backup singers like that? Naww, didn't think so.
white artists don't get much long term love at urban radio. George Michael was cool for a minute back in the 80's. Eminem might be the pop king of rap, but you'll almost never hear him on urban radio.
The reception for anything Timberlake peddles at urban radio will be lukewarm to frigid to non-existent. Once your credibilty is shot, you can forget it, doesn't matter who produced it.
I'm not the biggest Janet Jackson fan, but I know even when pop radio stops playing her music, she'll still get the love at R&B/Urban, just like Prince still does. When pop radio stops playing Timberlake, he'll be up shit creek without a paddle.

Y'all are funny. We all know the apology was phony. He didn't accidentally pull off that patch in her outfit. Don't hate on him though. If he wants to stay popular he's gotta play the game the way CBS/MTV tell him to. Afterall he's not a self-made artist and neither is Janet for that matter.
