nt even the madonna britney kiss stirred up so many threads! Well, the bitch got what she wanted out of us. She's the talk of the town. Hopefully this will drown out the "new album looks like it's gonna suck" chatter and clear the way for solid first-week numbers.

No shit!! I HATE Janet, even more than Bjork if you can believe that. Now all we're gonna hear about for the next few months is Janets tit. I feel ill already. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

I thought Janet's performance was boring. I guess she settled to get a greater reaction from the crowd by showing her breast. How original.

i thought her routine was great. the dancers were tight and the performance had janet jackson written all over it!

I loved it, too. Fucking hot, and I thought that it was some damn interesting photography. Janet isn't a has-been commercially, but artistically I think she's phoning it in. Can you be a has-been artistically? And SassyBritches, "American Life" sold 5 million copies worldwide, which is more than Erotica (her so-called "bomb") did in its first decade of release. Europe ate it up, and I loved about 6 or 7 tracks. Not her best, though. But hardly a failure commercially (at least on an international scale).

i love me some madonna but, really, that book was an overpriced, metal binded issue of hustler. steven meisel was such a great photographer and his talents were wasted. sorry but the whole psuedo rape thing and sitting on a dog's snout and sitting on a an old man's lap...sooo not sexy. and while she was trying to be provocative, even madonna admits now that she was stupid and affected.

yes, american life sold over 5 million records worldwide...and less than 500,000 in the U.S.. i am not one to care about record sales but if you want to bring up 'has beens' you need to start with the woman in your avatar, heehee! i personally loved american life...its one of my three favorite madonna releases. but i think it pails in comparison to anything janet's done since dreamstreet.

To my knowledge, Madonna has never made any statements like that. During her AL promo tour, she was asked about that period of her career, and she maintained (as she's always done) that that was the right thing for her to do at that point in time. She's never apologized for it, and she doesn't think it was a "stupid" thing to do. [This message was edited Tue Feb 3 19:09:27 PST 2004 by VoicesCarry]

For the record, I never called Janet a has-been (she's not - commercially). You have a right to your opinion, but how is a record that sells 5 million a bomb, and how does having that on your resumé make you a has-been? Remember how she was called a "has-been" and written off after Erotica sold 5 million? Yeah. They still made a profit. [This message was edited Tue Feb 3 19:15:47 PST 2004 by VoicesCarry]

I am sorry but I love Madonna but I have to say her sex book Sucked! I was so disappointed in it, It was not the best photography, the shots where staged and Madonna looked nothing but un natural in that Sadomasochism shots. You know it wasn't her, I was expecting beautiful erotica not dirty porn And you people talking about Madonna doing it with style that shit is a laugh it was raunchy and overrated. And that was the point not oh look at my pussy isn't that so Classy! NO It wasn't! Finally to say Janet is a has-been is so stupid, that statement is only practical in your minds. Janet has a nice, pleasing voice, but it's wafer thin and she tends not to do live shows. Madonna's tours have always been live, and she usually performs live as well, so I have to give her more credit in the vocal department. As for dancing, I prefer Madonna, but that's subjective. Janet has recycled the same moves for 20 years, and now Britney's lifting it. She's a good dancer technically, but she needs to try different things. On each of her tours, Madonna shifts her style choreography-wise. And how can you compare someone who basically writes their entire musical output with someone who uses Jam and Lewis as her crutch for 20 years? Come on! Janet's improved a lot, and The Velvet Rope was especially good, but I've yet to hear a Janet song that has moved me as much as "Frozen" or "The Power Of Goodbye". There's just no comparison. She makes incredible dance-pop, but she doesn't often try to move beyond the surface sheen of the music when it comes to her lyrics. And I'm really getting tired of the sex obsession she seems to have. Madonna did Erotica, but even then there were some really great songs about other things (her friend dying of AIDS, "Deeper And Deeper", "Rain"). I loved The Velvet Rope because I really sensed that Jan was trying to do something different. There were glimpses of that on RN, too - "State Of The World", for example. Then she makes All For You, which said a lot about sex but none of it interesting (Prince is about the only person who can do this). There might have been a really interesting album about her divorce somewhere in there (hinted at on "Better Days", a really good cut), but she took the easy way out. Now she's trying to do "Dirty Mind", but with her track record I'm afraid of what the final product will sound like. [This message was edited Tue Feb 3 19:34:03 PST 2004 by VoicesCarry]
