Robert Randolph and the Family Band?

I didn't see a thread on them, so I thought I'd start my own. I'd never of them, or heard them before, and they are FONK-AY! Am I late on the funk train or what? Anyone have any information on them? Any recommendations on CDs to buy from them as a new fan?

Their CD dropped last year and, with the strength of the single they performed last night, got them a lot of attention. Randolph, his bassist/co-vocalist and his drummer are BEASTS in the first order. I couldn't believe the triplets his bassist was doing; apparently RR couldn't either, and threw his hat at him. headbang

Their CD is all right. I think "I Need More Love" is probably the best single on there, though.

They kicked my ass on the Grammys last night...what was that dude playing, anyway? It looked like the kind of steel guitar that my grandparents used to play back in the day, but it sure didn't sound like steel guitar...sounded more like a demented harmonica. Loved it - I'd even dare to say they were the funkiest of last night's funk revue.

The NY Times did a wonderful profile of RR, about 3 years ago. My buddy was trying to hip me to him before folks caught on. I wasn't listenin'...

But, yeah, that was the same type of pedal steel guitar.

On the single, the bassist sounds like young Michael Jackson, his falsetto is SOOO tight!!!

I keep running across them. Not sure if they'll ever catch on with the masses, but they kicked ass the other night.

Those brothas were MONSTERS. Robert gets my vote for best solo of the night. Prince shoulda been taking notes.
