Joss Stone

check her out www.jossstone.co.uk she is amazing, her voice is out standing for a 16 year old soul singer, buy the album the soul sessions u wont regret it smile

short bio from her site
An album of classic and obscure soul covers by a teenage girl from a small rural hamlet just outside Tiverton in Devon might seem surprising, especially in this age of homogenous manufactured pop. Until you hear Joss Stone sing.

Right from very first hearing, it's clear that The Soul Sessions heralds the emergence of a new and unique young artist, with a rich, vibrant voice, and a powerful sense of emotional engagement with her material. In this case, the material consists of eight soul classics, ranging from the thoroughly obscure ("Dirty Man" by Laura Lee, "Super Duper Love" by Sugar Billy) to the reasonably familiar (Aretha Franklin's "All The King's Horses," the Isley Brothers' "For The Love Of You"); along with radical reworkings of John "The Lovin' Spoonful" Sebastian's "I Had a Dream" and Jack White's "Fell In Love With A Girl".

What the media say
US music biz bible Billboard to enthuse "Every so often a voice comes along that literally knocks you off your feet. Joss Stone fits that bill...think of a young Janis Joplin by way of Mavis Staples".

"When Stone sings", added the Boston Globe "It's like listening to an old soul record plucked from a dusty stack of forgotten 45s".

She's the new Dusty Springfield. This girl's got soul. She could definitely whoop Britney and Christina. Joss Stone is gonna go places.

I don't think she could whoop Christina vocally, but she can definitely hold her own. I love the way Betty Wright produced this project (it sounds very vintage and raw), and I LOVE this cd. That young girl has a lot of "heart" in her singing.

I think she's good, but, like Norah Jones, terribly overrated as a vocalist. The press has been calling her "the next Aretha" (or some variant of that) for months now, so I picked up her album, listened to it and went "huh?" Are we really that starved these days for good singers that we'll laud someone for having what 30 years ago would have likely been considered a "nothing special" voice? I don't think she's quite at that point in her life where she can sing with authority about her lyrical subjects, but I'm eager to see what happens when she achieves that maturity. It's one thing to have a serviceable voice, it's quite another to have fire, soul and authenticity.

The production is good, the set choice is interesting (I particularly liked her gender-reversed take on the White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Boy"), but she didn't give me that thrilling feeling I get when I hear a truly great voice for the first time.

In time we will see...but she has a special quality, just like Terence Trent D'arby did when he first burst into the seen in 87' and he still has that voice and tremendous poetic lyrics on his new CD "WildCard" if you don't have it yet get it. Also can't wait for Fiona Apple's next CD now she's got some talent. Her last CD is just fantastic...When the pawn...
