Al B Sure!

I was bumping some old Al B Sure! and since I haven't heard anyone here mention him was wondering if anyone is a fan. I liked him a lot back in the day and my favorite is hearing "Kyle West break it down!" I love that... Nite and Day, On your own girl, Naturally mine, If Im not your lover, and Right now are my faves anyone else remember Al B?

I remember Al B alright. The good thing is he is a disc jockey in Oakland or Frisco. Sad thing is I heard him sing the national anthem for one of the baseball games and it was the most horrible experience I ever heard. VH1 had him on where is he now or something. I was a very painful to hear and watch. He can't sing like he used too.

Yes one of many cat's that didn't cross that finish line when it came 2 the "live showcase of vocal skillz"...Seeing i don't dig much on the radio I have yet 2 hear his vocal skillz as a radio DJ...

Funny thing is Mr. Golden touch Q-Jones backed this brotha up with his solid wise hype yet at the end of the day Al B. Sure was just was mere whipped up creation with no real foundation 2 last and make a profound effect on music as a whole.

Hey in todays market perhaps he should give it another go around...

Oh dear God! Tell me he didn't mess that song up too? When will it all end? As far as his DJ'ing skillz, he is a slow jam kind of guy. From what they said on VH1 he is on at night doing love songs or something. He has the voice for that. That is about it though.

woah, I love me some Al B Sure. He doesn't massacre the Eagles track, btw. (some would say the Eagles are already pukeworthy...)

IMO, his ballads are his strong suit. I have "Sexy Versus" (surely he meant Verses when he came up to name this album?) Anyway, I digress. The album has some reeaal strong slow jams, IMO.

Like I said, he has his own style. I haven't seen him perform live tho. In fact, haven't heard anything from him in many many years.

I can't imagine that it was as bad as Olympic gold metalist Carl Lewis' rendition. :ugh:

Hey, what's Al's real name anyway?

I just mentioned ol' boy on another thread. I liked his cover of killing me softly. His Hotel California was musically very... interesting... in a good way once you got used to it. As for his singing of it, well you'll either leave it or love it. I even liked a lot of Private Times especially the slow jams-- Touch you, Special Lady, etc. It's when he got to those up-tempo Channel J type songs that he got into trouble.

Anyway, I lost interest after that second album and lo and behold he pops up years later DJing on one of our local stations out here in the Bay Area. Go figure.

i really al back inthe while.i thought he was gonna be around a while because he was really into engineering, producing,a&r,and the like..not just singing.he worked on jodeci, won that sony innovators award, was backed by q,and wrote his ongs.i did notice that was some type of producer for jamie foxx's last comedy special.and i did see that vh-=1 thing and he was a close second to carl lewis.i actually wish i had carl's version on mp3 or something.there is no way to describe how awful he was.i'd like to makre a cd w/ all the most memorable versions..like jimi, marvin gaye, whitney,al b sure, carl lewis, etc.if anyone knows wher i can get that please lemme know.

A few years ago,Al worked at KISS FM (98.1) where he had his own slow jams show called "The Secret Garden".I saw him last year at a Brothers Johnson concert given by the radio station. But his show no longer comes on.

I remember in 1991,I went out and bought his second album 'Private Times...And The whole 9'.His debut album was tight,so I expected the follow-up to be at least as good. But,why did he choose a classic song like the Eagles' "Hotel California" to open his album with?? Bad mistake. The rest of the album was a glossy,over-long and overproduced New Jack Swing affair...a few decent jams, but nothing really outstanding or memorable. There was nothing as catchy and inviting as "Nite and Day".
