NEW MARIAH ALBUM INFO!!! 'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson recently spoke to BET.com visitors about his involvement in Mariah Carey's upcoming album. "We just started working on a new record and I think you're gonna see a lot of different stuff from her," Jackson said. "We're gonna pull out all the stops and try some different things. You gonna see her return to what she was doing years ago with the 'Vision of Love' period. She's already got a couple of hot joints already but we're gonna take our time and make it right." Shit, it's been years since Mariah's had anything close to resembling "a hot joint".

I predict a lot of midtempo, blues ballads with major-7th chords.

sounds like Mariah will going back to her Jazz roots Mariah's jazz roots? Surely you jest. Homegirl got some Jazzy chops lol sadly, she doesn't take 'em all that seriosuly. Listen to "The Wind" from her "Emotions" album. its the most underrated ballad she eva did,,,super-tight production(This a jazz standard btw-She takes afew note from Chaka Khan & Ella Fitzgerald). And the beautifull "Subtle Vintage"! I wish she could worl with a HIGHLY RESPECTED producer like Arif Mardin who could deliever an atmosphere based on nothing but PURE MUSICIANSHIP. I think he'll bring the best in her. Shit, he brings the best in everybod!

Oh, I agree she does jazz-tinged numbers quite well ("Subtle Invitation" was the best thing on Charmbracelet), but she certainly doesn't have ROOTS in that type of music. Arif Martin is a good idea for a producer, but only if he convinces her to give her record more substance than a title like "Candy Floss" or "Lollipop" would suggest.
