Patrice Rushen's Album Pt.2--Ok, I Just Bought These!!!

I already got the Haven't U Heard gh collection and the Prelusion/Before The Dawn CDs. So I bought these:

Patrice
Pizzazz
Posh
Str8 From The Heart
Now
Anything But Ordinary

Basicaly, all of her albums except her 1987's release "Watch Out" which is either out of print or in Japan. I'm trying to find a non-import one.

What u think?

Pizazz, Posh and Patrice...on the Elecktra label are good..some great album cuts on those records in addition to the hit songs off those...Straight From The Heart is one of her best efforts...it ranks up there with Before The DawnIMO...

Didn't like NOW...and to me Watch Out was terrible...I remember when it came in 1987 and one of my buddies who worked at the record store, took the record out of the jacket and let me hear it...Besides the awesome title track..nothing else was memorable about it...Patrice has rarely disappointed me..She's one of my all-time favorite female artists...but she disappointed X 3 with that one...

Even so... she remains a great artist and musician.

Enjoy your trip through the albums...Should find plenty of great music on them.

Shout It Out is a funky soulful record...Patrice was laying down some serious jams on that label during those 70's years...To a lot of jazz/fusion heads...Patrice as a musician was at her best then{you can really hear the influence of Herbie Hancock's 70's recordings in her stuff during that time}...But as you will hear on records like Straight From The Heart, Posh and Pizzazz...Patrice alloted herself on several songs, enough bars to improvise efficiently on her instrument...so in essence these records have a strong jazz feel to them...

To me with Now after the success of STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART she did away with a lot of the musical flair of her earlier recordings to conform to the rhythmic and synth patterns that were in vogue during that year (1984)...I didn't like the album overall..there are a couple of songs on it that keeps it from being a total dud...

Anything But Ordinary was a CD that I never heard all of...But from the few songs I heard..it was a return to form of sorts...SHAME ON ME for not getting it...It's one of those recordings that I will have to backtrack and purchase.
