Anybody in here dig the work of Billy Preston?
As a keyboardplayer he´s had some cool gigs.
He was only 10 when playing behind Mahalia Jackson.
As a teenager he was in Little Richard´s band,
before getting recruited by Ray Charleson stuff like
Ashford & Simpsons Let´s go get stones
& with Sam Cooke on some of his albums
He then became almost like a 5´th member of The Beatles
on the "Abbey Road" & "Let it be album".
Also he played with Rolling Stones & on Sly & the Family Stone´s There´s a riot going on.
John Lennon & Aretha Franklin
He´s written some memorable songs 2,like "You are so beautiful","I wanna thank you","Hello little girl"(that Donnie Hathaway aslo did),"Will it go round in circle"
& "Outta space".His latest hit was in the 80's with
Syreeta."With you I´m born again".
I´m gonna see him live this sunday with The Funk Brothers
(Motown).

I'm not too familiar with his solo music but last night I rented the 'Concert for George' DVD & absolutely loved the 2 performances he gave. Especially "My Sweet Lord"; that was my favorite song in the whole concert.

"Outta Space" and "Space Race" are two of the funkiest jams of the 70s.

John and George wanted him to be member of the Beatles, powerfreak Paul said no.

Great vocalist and keyboard player.I just got two of his earlier Apple Cds "That's The Way God Planned It" & "Encouraging Words".

Check out his hilarious duet with Mick on "Melody" from "Black & Blue".

I once purchased tix to see Mazarati at the Ritz. However, they canceled and were replaced by Billy Preston. I was pissed and actually wanted my money back. Since I couldn't get a refund I saw Billy anyway. Don't remember much about the performance, though. Guess I was still pissed about the cancellation.
