http://www.mtv.com/news/a...lines=true As official as it could ever be until they actually take the stage together, influential band the Pixies have confirmed their reunion in an announcement made Wednesday. All four original members of the alternative rock trailblazers — Black Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black), Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering — will be reuniting for the first time since they acrimoniously disbanded in 1993. They will be gathering on Wednesday (February 4) in a practice space in Los Angeles for the first day of rehearsals for an upcoming tour. MTV News first reported in September that the group would reunite (see "Legendary Pixies To Reunite For Tour, Album"). At the time there was no official word or timetable on the band's specific plans. While their headlining slot at day one of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was already confirmed, (see "Radiohead, Pixies, Kraftwerk Playing First Night Of Coachella" ), the Pixies also announced on Wednesday an 11-city "warm-up" tour of North America. The band's last major road show was in 1992, supporting U2 on their mammoth Zoo TV trek. Following Coachella, the band will embark on a European tour starting May 28 and ending July 10. Exact dates and cities of both tours will be announced soon, a spokesperson for the band said. There were rumors that Kim Deal was not going to be part of the upcoming reunion and that her place would be filled by Paz Lenchantin, former bassist of A Perfect Circle and Zwan. The Pixies' spokesperson said the rumor was false and that all the original members were indeed speaking to each other and taking the reunion one day at a time. In addition to the upcoming concerts, the Pixies will release a DVD and CD later this year on 4AD/Beggars Banquet. The DVD features eight of the Pixies' videos, a live concert filmed at the Town and Country Club in London in 1988 and a documentary, "Gouge," that features interviews with such stars as Bono, Radiohead's Thom Yorke and David Bowie. The CD, Wave of Mutilation - Best of the Pixies, will offer 23 tracks including remixed versions of the group's most well-known cuts.
