MORRISSEY's guitarist has revealed more details about the singer's first album in seven years, 'YOU ARE THE QUARRY'.

The record is due for release in April through the Sanctuary record label, on the Attack imprint.

Alan Whyte said: "It's going to be a great album. Think the fans will be really, really excited. I personally think it's the best Morrissey album to date."

Morrissey and his band have recorded almost 30 songs in Oxfordshire's Hook End Manor with producer Jerry Finn.

Whyte told BBC's 6 Music: "It's kind of like a cross between 'Your Arsenal' and 'Vauxhall & I' musically - there's real variety there. There are some slow songs, some uptempo ones and a few real tough-sounding tracks."

New song titles expected to appear on the album include 'My Life Is A Series Of People Saying Goodbye', 'Teenage Dad On His Estate' and 'Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice'.

As previously reported on NME.COM, other titles include 'I Have Forgiven Jesus', 'Come Back To Camden', 'How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel' and 'I'm Not Sorry'.

Last year Morrissey briefly returned to the UK, where he told Manchester's City Life magazine about the reason for the length of time since his last album, 1997's Maladjusted

"I honestly didn't have any decent offers," he said. "For example, three major US labels said "We want you, but we don't want your band", so I turned them down. Another label said "We want to sign you, but we'd like you to make an album with the musicians from Radiohead", and another label said "We'll sign you if you agree to make an album with Tracey Thorn." Absolutely bewildering. People don't know what I've been through."

I'm in a Mozz mode at this moment, I have just listened to a rare 95 live mini album & it's better than the official one ( beethoven was deaf) imo + I think that his 97 album was underrated ( on wide to recieve he sings like a god) - I hope that the production will be good & not outdated

I´m really excited. I´ve been waiting almost seven years for some new stuff from the man and now "You Are The Quarry" is finally around the corner.

I´m sure it will be a really exciting record. Morrissey has never dissapointed me musically (well, except with "Kill Uncle" maybe).

I hope he tours Europe soon.

I'll get it but I'm not "excited". I saw him on tour last year and most of the new songs he played - "Mexico", "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" and "I Like You" were very dull.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely loking forward to Moz's new joint. I hope it's as good as his Smiths stuff. I haven't been up on Moz's solo stuff, but I have his hits collection. That should be enough.

I like all the Smiths stuff and the one Morrissey album with "Every Day Is Like Sunday" (I think the first one he released after Smiths were done?), so I don't really know how to navigate his solo material.

"Viva Hate" is indeed the one with his first solo hits "Suedehead" and "Everyday Is like Sunday" on it. However, I would prefer "Bona Drag", a singles and b-sides collection, because both songs are on it, too.
"Kill Uncle" was a very weak album, unfortunately. "Your Arsenal" was a return to form with great songs like "You´re The One For Me, Fatty", "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" and "Certain People I Know" on it. "Your Arsenal" was followed by the great live-album "Beethoven Was Deaf". Recorded in Paris, it focuses mainly on "Your Arsenal"-material, but his great hits are on it, too. So you might buy this album first. "Vauxhall And I" is his greatest songwriting archievement, I think. Maybe his best solo album. "Southpaw Grammar" and "Maladjusted" are good, but for fans only.

I LOVE Southpaw Grammar. It´s one of my favs. I think many people just don´t get it. It has this raw energy and tracks like "The Operation", "The Boy Racer", "Southpaw Grammar", "Best Friend On The Payroll" and "Do Your Best And Don´t Worry" are wonderful. Damn, I like "Southpaw Grammar " WAY better than "Maladjusted". He really tried to do something new on this album.
