Janet released a statement this evening concerning last night's halftime show:

"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals. MTV was completely unaware of it. It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended - including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL."

that is exactly how i think she should have responded to such an overblown reaction.

and i especially love the phrase "costume reveal"!

I'm 99.9% sure she knew what she might be facing before she went in there. It was a brilliant (if crass and inappropriate) publicity stunt and Janet's not a stupid woman. A little $27000 fine from the FCC would be worth the extra $$$ this is going to bring her in the long run.

If people paid LESS attention to this kind of stuff THEN maybe these artists willl have to do something to REALLY get noticed...maybe Janet can OUT MJ, and MJ can OUT Janet to give them simultaneous publicity.

dang.. i didn't know the fcc was on the case. O.K. move considering artist promotions can run into the millions. $27,000 is chump-change.

"I find that to be a bit of a flap about nothing," the former Vermont governor said.

"In general, I think the FCC does have a role in promoting some reasonable standard of decency," Dean told reporters aboard his campaign plane. "However, considering what's on television these days, I think the FCC is being pretty silly about investigating this."

He added, "I don't find it terribly shocking relative to some of the things you can find on standard cable television. I think the FCC probably has a lot of other things they should be pursuing."

Janet's spokeswoman, Jennifer Holiner, said a red lace garment was supposed to remain when Justin Timberlake tore off the outer covering of her outfit at the halftime show, the Associated Press is reporting.

Holiner said she was not sure whether Jackson's medieval-looking nipple decoration was meant to be seen, but added that the singer does wear such jewelry.

Janet knew exactly what she was doing and what reaction to expect. Her "i'm so shocked" act after it happened was laughable. She's been increasing the nudity content of her act for over a decade. We get it, Janet. You're a pervy 38-year-old.

As for Howard Dean, he's just happy people are asking him to comment at this point. And, he issued just the right statement for his core audience of college-aged folks. How many states do you think he'll win tomorrow? Yeah, that's what he ought to focus on, with his weak little, "we're focusing on delegates in this marathon," spiel. Puh-LEEZE!!!
