Mary J Blige & Toni Braxton 2 B In The Oscar Telecast!

Blige and Braxton to sing on Oscar telecast
Fri Jan 30, 1:52 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters

By Gregg Kilday
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Academy Awards producer Gil Cates announced that singers Mary J. Blige and Toni Braxton will both perform on the upcoming Feb. 29th Oscar telecast. Ms. Blige will sing "You Will Be My Ain True Love" (written by Sting) from Cold Mountain while Ms. Braxton (written by Elvis Costello) will offer a rendition of "Scarlet Tide", also from Cold Mountain. It was Sting's idea to recruit the R&B songstresses when Alison Krauss, who sang both songs for the soundtrack, declined on the invitation due to a scheduling conflict.

Sting said, "Mary and Toni are terrific singers who can add a different interpretation to the songs. Hopefully their appearance on the Oscars will garner more interest for the film and the soundtrack."

That was really nice of him.

Harle, what did you think of Mary's turn on Sting's latest album?
