Rediscover the GENIUS of Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby

I've been revisiting this album recently...WOW! woot!
Could this be the most impressive debut album EVER? hmm

All songs are strong, it's really hard to pick a favorite.
I bet at least 9 songs would be mentioned as favorites, but I would have to say "If You Let Me Stay" music would be right there for me.

I gotta get this on CD...tape only right now...sad

1. If You All Get To Heaven
2. If You Let Me Stay
3. Wishing Well
4. I'll Never Turn My Back On You (Father's Words)
5. Dance Little Sister
6. Seven More Days
7. Let's Go Forward
8. Rain
9. Sign Your Name
10. As Yet Untitled
11. Who's Lovin' You
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

His voice is very unique...

I don't consider him a strong singer, he sounds
out-of-tune to me, but it still sounds pleasant
to me...weird.

TTD is the bomb! Great debut, I agree. Sign Your Name would be my favorite track, then If You All Get to Heaven.

Have you seen the live video that goes with this. Now THAT is brilliant! Great behind the scenes interviews and stuff. Performances are superb.

No, didn't know they existed! Is it official, or bootleg stuff? I'll have to hunt it down.

fantastic record... I wouldn't call it the most impressive debut album ever, but it's got to be up there somewhere in the top 10.

If that doesn't work, do a search on amazon under VHS, using hardline as the keyword.

hmmm. i heard he was sort of an asshole as a show he did in Chicago (or maybe it was Philly-Sassy Britches-help me out here) ... he came on 45 minutes late and then was yelling profanities at the audience...dunno if i'd waste my time if this was true...

it was philadelphia. it was much more than 45 minutes late. not only did he show up late but because of that he still hadn't rehearsed so he cancelled the opening acts and used their time to do soundcheck. then he had his people come up to the balcony (where the bar was) and demand that we all go downstairs..."sananda will not perform until everyone is on the floor" is what we were told. when he finally did come out, his performance was fantastic. but then he left after about an hour or so and blamed it on city time ordinances...which, by the way, don't exist in that section of philly...they only pertain to the residential areas. several friends of mine work for the venue and they were telling me how awful ttd was. he was playing the part of a diva...too bad the venue only seated about 300...and wasn't sold out.

but yeah, his music is great! nod

It depends on how you define the word "genius". Parade is a fantastic album, Introducing The Hardline is a fantastic album as well, I don´t know which one I prefer, I love them both lol

Yes, this was definitely one of the better releases of 1987. In fact it's the greatest album released since "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". lol

I'm not one to throw that word around lightly...
This CD, this piece of work, i consider 2
B inspired, a piece of genius, not necessarily
TTD.
Prince is unquestionably GENIUS, his talent, his body
of work...I wouldn't say that about any other artist.

If I´d use the term GENIUS for Prince (as for an incredibly talented artist), then I use it without a doubt for Sananda/TTD as well. Though I definitely love Introducing The Hardline, it is my least favourite record by Sananda/TTD, IMHO all his other records show his talent even more than his brilliant debut record.

"Dance Little Sister" was a fantastic track. I have this on cassette somewhere too. It was one of the first albums my dad bought for me.

I think TTD disappeared up his own ass didn't he..? Started trying to release albums of strictly instrumental stuff or him whining in the background...hang on a minute, that sounds familiar.

shocked whofarted hmm Where did you here that bullshit? hmm Sananda/TTD never released an instrumental album and he never was "whining on the background" either rolleyes In fact he released 4 other brilliant albums ("Neither Fish Nor Flesh", "Symphony Or Damn", "Vibrator" and "Wildcard"), that did not have as much commercial success as "Introducing The Hardline", but the quality of them is just superb!

The Hardline and Symphony or Damn were both great albums. I found Vibrator a little harder to take. I watched a documentary on him a few years ago and it was widely believed that he fell into his own hype and that was why his career crashed and burned. He believed at one point that he could release anything and people would buy it.

i saw TTD in England on his Vibrator tour, and he was a great showman - certainly didn't come across as an asshole then, anyway. He was joking around, laughing at some of the more outlandish dancing in the boxes and was ripping up some serious tunes. Dance little sister (which is my personal fave on the album) was truly awesome - as soon as that beat comes in...man it's good.
