Covers You Like Better Than The Original What are some remakes that you enjoy more than the original song? My favorite cover is Scott Weiland's version of "But Not Tonight", originally by Depeche Mode.

Johnny Cash - "Hurt" There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Here are some remakes that I like more than the originals...
***"Superstar" by Luther Vandross---I like the Carpenters' original version, but Luther just takes this song and makes it his own. ***"Giving Him Something He Can Feel" by EnVogue---yes,I like it better than Aretha's version

I'm gonna be the first person to say this -
Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor Just beautiful. The Prince version is a nice song and all, but it's absolutely nothing compared to the power of Sinead's version.

I like the original version but the cover of Mad World (Tears For Fears) in the movie Donnie Darko is wonderful ( I think it's by Gary Jules)

Johnny Cash - "Hurt" I agree with this one. It's bare and raw and captures everything that Trent intended, without the sampled fuzz and techno angst. Just him and a guitar or two and WOW it's awesome... The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

good topic!
for me, there are SO MANY.. here's the "short list", off the top of my head: song : original/remade by Superstar/Until You Come Back To Me : Aretha/Luther Vandross - Luther simply took this too another level; so much so that I see this 1 as Aretha doing his song! How Can You Mend A Broken Heart : Bee Gees/Al "love & happiness" Green - I've even heard the Bee Gees say that Al did this song better than they did. absolutely no argument here For The Good Times : Willie Neslon(?)/Al "full of fire" Green - anybody see a trend here? Crusin : Willian "Smokey" Robinson/D'Angelo - the homeboy from my hometown improved considerably on the silky smooth original from the prolific Motown crooner. I Heard It Through The Grapevine : Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & the Pips/Roger - the early 80s version by the MASTER of the vocoder "talk box" is BY FAR the funkiest version of "Grapevine" &, dare I say it, the best I've heard.. I Can't Make You Love Me : Bonnie Raitt/Prince - well, I can't diss "Nce" all the time, & this was done back when he still had a tiny trace of "reality" & perspective in him.. there are probably a few others I could post, they simply escape me right now. for the most part, I find remakes to be clearly inferior to their predecessors.. I'll see you tonight..

Looks like some great choices but when did Prince cover "I Can't Make You Love Me"? Not much of a fan of the Roger "Heard it Through the Grapevine" and I think Marvin Gaye did it first (he did it best, I think). I also think that Kris Krisstofferson might have done "For The Good Times" (I think he wrote it) but Al Green does it justice, along with ever cover he does!
