I can't really tolerate that Franklin. Yea...that 1987 Aretha gospel recording is good. It has been reissued and remastered by Arista(thank God, it was out of print for some years). Mavis Staples makes some guest appearances on a couple of songs with her that are powerful. Plus there are sermons interwoven between certain songs...I should also mention that the sermons and messages don't disrupt the overall flow of the 2-record set at all. Great gospel recording!!! But now that you describe it, I still think I'll check it out. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

well, even if I'm not what you would call a very spiritual or religious person I enjoy some Gospel tracks every now and then for the music though; coming to my mind r the likes of Sounds of Blackness, Kirk Franklin, Tramaine Hawkins, Winans, Mary Mary, Andre Crouch, Philip Bailey (he released some great christain/gospel albums in between) etc.
problem is, with the releases here in Europe U are even lucky if U can get your hands on the BIG names, don't even dream about finding some not-so-well-known artists ovahea (Austria that is) Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

But now that you describe it, I still think I'll check it out. Oh you're thinking about her 1972 Atlantic gospel release called Amazing Grace that was critically acclaimed. A lot of people love that album...It too has been remastered and reissued with bonus tracks. Both Amazing Grace and One Lord,One Faith,One Baptism are must haves.

Anybody remember The Mighty Clouds of Joy? Man, was I conflicted by "Mighty High!" It rocked so much I didn't know whether to pray or dance.
Tramaine Hawkins "Fall Down" was another one that did that to me. I thinks there's something spiritual about Eddie Kendricks' "He's a Friend" and "Going Up in Smoke."
